Yes, the week has only just begun and already we have a new beta build to play with. The latest beta refresh of Mail Desktop (Build 1034) includes:

  • Virus scanning of attachments
  • Photo Emails can be sent via POP accounts
  • RSS syncing – the ability to sync all your RSS feeds at once
  • Autoupdate – now you can opt-in during setup to receive update notifications through Automatic Updates
  • Contact Import improvements – any suspected duplicate contacts are identified and can be merged into one
  • Performance improvements, especially around signin
  • Over 1000 issues fixed!

Download now (15.5MB)

This build appears to have much improved Vista support (it now logs on), something which will undoubtedly please the legions of Vista testers out there. If you have Automatic Updates disabled before you install this build, you will want to disable it again via the Control Panel once you have completed the installation

We have a QnA with the team to hopefully be posted shortly :)

Update:Tanja from the Mail Desktop team has more information on the update.

  • himmel

no more ads? worth tring again lol

  • Chris

I have no ads because I have Hotmail Plus. I wouldn’t think they’d voluntarily disable the revenue model for the product though!

  • Khristopher

please please please let this fix the never ending crashing i’m having. i hope this is the public version and not a managed beta version!

  • Chris

Yes it’s a public version, which is why I gave the download link :)

Let us know how you get on with the new build.

  • BV2312

Well chris.. I don’t have Hotmail Plus but i still don’t have no ads ;) i ain’t complaining tho.. just showing joy

  • Khristopher

    ads are back

you guys should make a proper comment reply system :P u have the option to be emailed of replies to comments but u can’t really properly reply to a comment so it’s kinda redundant to have that option right now i guess :P

as for this new build, no more crashing! yeehaw. however i think the new problem is worse :(
all my newsgroups got like reset. everything i had marked watched got reset and all the messages i deleted are back and u can no longer delete topics or messages it seems.

also check this out. dunno what’s causing this but reading newsgroups like this just doesn’t work.

  • Khristopher

i figured the img tag wouldn’t work :P oh well it’s still clickable.

Liveside might be enabling forums in the near future so you’ll be able to comment and reply in there in a better manner

I wish they would make a way to minimize the program to the taskbar, that way you can receive emails without having the program running, you will have it running in the background.

  • JoeM

looks good will download, and submit bugs

  • thaliondalion

bv, do you have the Active Search turned on? If you do, then you’ll only have that shown on the right-hand side.. if you don’t have it turned on, you will get ads.

If You Have Added An “External E-Mail Account” To Windows Live Mail DeskTop,

You WILL LOSE EVERYTHING Since Your Last Sync!!!

You WILL LOSE EVERYTHING Since Your Last Sync!!!

You WILL LOSE EVERYTHING Since Your Last Sync!!!

Sync Or Export BEFORE UPDATING To Build 1034!!!

I Found Out The Hard Way! :-(

do you need to instal the new version from the installer?
isn’t there a update option, if you already have a older version?

  • Chris

Yes you need to install the new build by using the installer. There is no update option, that was one of the features added to this build.

Remember to submit feedback to the team via :)
