Windows Live Contacts control adds “presence”

Microsoft’s Danny Thorpe talks about the new version of the Windows Live Contacts control that adds a new tile view that displays online presence (i.e. online, busy, etc) and initiate a messenger session. The hosting Web site can also pre-define a message to populate the Messenger window. I’ve tried this and it works great. It’s also cool that anyone can put this kind of power on their website without entering into any lengthy and costly relationship with Microsoft. Now if only the Amazon’s and eVites of the world would only add this to their site, it would make it easier for their users.
