Windows Live Writer snippets

While the news on Writer has been pretty quiet recently, here’s two items that caught our attention.

The German Live Writer community got a look at one of the internal Live writer builds and kindly shared what they saw. Though the screenshot they posted has since been removed, its helpfully still up on flickr. Thanks for showing us the new UI guys!

If you are waiting for a new version of Live Writer, you’re going to have to wait a while longer. Discussion on the Windows Live Writer group states that “the next major release is still a few months away.” We’re just wondering what they are working on that has caused such a long gap between major releases – any suggestions?

can’t wait to use it!! i’m so glad they made it look like the rest of the windows live suite. it didn’t fit in when they released it which made it confusing.

as for the long wait? i have no idea! haha maybe you can shed some light for us :P

That new interface looks sweet! I hope it’s sooner than a few months before they release it.

Perhaps the delay is to work with other Windows Live teams to help integrate Writer into the overall plan a little better.

I’m loving the Desktop Mail feel to the new Writer, I use writer all the time, and it looks like it’s just gonna get better. I can see certain things that might put them back a bit just from that screenshot:

The bar at the top (Publish, new etc…) doesnt have the rounded corners like the Desktop Mail client has, maybe theyre still working on the UI.

Also the pane on the right still doesn’t seem coloured right, plus I’m guessing that new Spaces Video insert feature will be added to the ‘Insert list’, thats probably taking some time to integrate…

Now, going off on a limb, I would hope that maybe some extra special Spaces integration is coming and thats also taking time…Microsoft needs to promote Spaces more than all the other sites that Writer works with, maybe we would be able to actually edit the Space’s layout and design etc, just like we can in IE or Firefox, in the Writer Client in future…
