Microsoft announces Windows Live deal with Lenovo

As we noted earlier, and as Joe Wilcox alluded to earlier today, Microsoft and Lenovo announced a deal to include Live.com and Windows Live toolbar on Lenovo PCs worldwide:

“As a part of their continued collaboration, Microsoft Corp. and Lenovo today announced a global agreement to pre-load Windows Live™ services on Lenovo PCs sold worldwide including ThinkPad notebooks, ThinkCentre desktops and Lenovo-branded PCs. In the coming weeks, Lenovo will be the first PC maker to provide its customers worldwide with immediate access to the Microsoft® Live.com portal (http://www.live.com) and Windows Live Toolbar (http://toolbar.live.com) for a more integrated and personalized Web experience as they work, communicate and conduct their day-to-day activities.”

Personally the live toolbar is not great in Vista, but this is alot better then having that memory hoging google search and toolbars installed.

agreed — the hidden subtext here is that Lenovo is *dumping* the Google solution and going with Windows Live instead.

Yuck. Lenovo isn’t a really popular brand here in America. I doubt anybody really likes their computers, they just look ugly. But at least it’s better than nothing. I heard that they wanted to be with Dell, but Dell wanted to make them fork over a ton of cash. So Microsoft went, “Yeah right. Like we’re going to pay that much to be on there.” I personally have a Dell, and I hate the Google stuff built-in. It always redirects me to a shared Google/Dell page, which I hate. Dell locks you in anyways. So the next best one would be HP or Sony. But there wasn’t anything about that. I guess Lenovo isn’t that bad, but there’s always better options.

Does anyone else’s blogreader constantly think that this post has been updated? Every five minutes I get my blog reader (Sharpreader) telling me that I have an unread post – and its always this one.

Sorry…just a minor issue. I’m not dissing anyone.

    cheers
