Windows Live Hotmail Plus mailboxes go to 4GB

Along with recent news of Windows Live Hotmail being updated to M10 and talk of it being released in the coming weeks, the latest news is that Hotmail Plus users will now notice the storage meter showing 4GB. As usual the Mail team is rolling this out in stages, however you can at least feel slightly superior to your Gmail friends now. Just don’t mention it to anybody with a Yahoo! Mail beta account though.

Further information on the rollout is available on the Hotmail Support blog and there are some more Windows Live Hotmail Plus features if you are interested. Here’s a shot in the dark – anybody heard what will be happening to MSN Premium?

At last it was getting to the point of wondering whether or not to cancel my subscription but at least it has now been sorted out

I abandoned MSN Premium a couple of years ago. Compared to what is now available for free, and more feature-rich, MSN Premium lost its place as the ‘premium’ internet experience. Ironic isn’t it? Shame, I was quite fond of MSN Premium but I think it is now not high on MSN’s/Windows Live’s priority list.

Since I’m an MSN Premium subscriber, I have been wondering what will happen to us, right now we have 2GB. I asked in their blog, so we’ll see what they say.

Haha, well that’s nice, but I can’t fill up my 2 GB as it is. :)

If it was offered as general-purpose online storage space, on the other hand…………………………… :D

    I want Live Drive.

Still on 2gb here. Got the Windows Live Hotmail branding, but only 2gb not 4

Besides having more space I don’t really see any real benefit to being a Premium subscriber.

Not to take away from the post, but Yahoo Mail’s storage space limit will be totally removed from all accounts, meaning there will be unlimited space for all Yahoo! Mail users. So, it would be great to have Hotmail, Gmail, AOL Mail, and Yahoo! Mail all at the same time, especially Yahoo Mail, since it will have a much bigger storage capacity than all other email service providers. To read what I mean, just head to this link here: http://yodel.yahoo.com/2007/03/27/yahoo-mail-goes-to-infinity-and-beyond/ and you will see what I mean.

Ok..howabout this thought, MSN Premium/MSN Explorer was at one point in time, suppossed to progress to vers.10 w/ the launch of Vista..then all of a sudden one of the things no one talked about for the last couple years since the Live products began and MSN was supposedly on the way of the dinosaur was this product..it was as if it didn’t exist..then MSN it was decided would continue as the entertainment outlet of Microsoft..then in the last few months after confusion at different moments over where Live would be going some things began slipping back towards MSN away from the Live branding…now say MSN Explorer/Premium services would have continued, the next step would’ve been vers.10 or in a cool microsoft branding type of way possibly the roman numeral for 10…X! I’ve always wondered how things such as IE7, Live Toolbar, the Windows Live Mail Desktop app, Virtual Earth, all the new other “services”, plus the old advanced apps touted by MSN Premium/Explorer, such as the enhanced MSN Money and Calendar (possibly the mysteriously delayed Live Calendar) would end up being bundled together for Microsoft to throw at consumers in one package. Close watchers will note that 2 Live beta apps that dissapeared were Live Essentials and the Wi-Fi center, these things could all be bundled into this platform along w/ the Live Parental Controls, Safety Center and Live Drive and be the basis for what we’ve heard is Windows Live Core that Ozzie has been working on. Possibly w/ a pretty Vistafied front end? Some of you may be thinking..wow, that kinda makes sense or some might think I’ve smoked too much funny stuff but I think it makes sense and would be pretty damn cool. “MSN X w/ Windows Live Services” or something?? Anyways, guess we’ll see soon enough!! lol ;)

as a plus user I now have my 4gb of storage – thanks
but the only thing stopping me moving completely to LIVE Hotmail is the lack of email and folder SEARCH

    give me SEARCH please

  • http://www.nbdev.co.uk/Blogs Nick

    Search, ur joking right?

Don’t u see the big search box at the top of the Windows Live Hotmail page? It’s the standard Windows Live Search box, it just has an extra button for searching ur mail

I recently talked with someone working on MSN Premium and they would not say what is happening with it, although there is a new beta testing the new auto-update engine for MSN Premium. This person also seemed interested in getting new beta testers for other products, hopefully a new version of MSN Premium.
