Windows Live Calendar: more info coming this summer?

In an interview yesterday at Mix ’07, Mary Jo Foley asked Brian Arbogast, Corporate Vice President Windows Live Developer & Communications Platform, about Windows Live Calendar (good question, Mary Jo!).

While she didn’t get a lot of information, Arbogast did say that “Calendar will be a shared service and we’ll be talking more about it this summer”.  In an era where Microsoft seems to be only willing to talk about what’s out there now, getting someone to even respond to a Calendar question is commendable.

Well we know it exists and that we’ll be hearing more this summer, and as much as we like the current Windows Live Calendar, we can’t wait to see the “real thing”.

I really hope they pull out all the stops for WL Calendar. I’ve been waiting for this for a while.. like most people around here. Hmm.. maybe they will use some Silverlight to help build it?

    Can’t wait to see.

The lack of a calendar component really damages Hotmail.

Of course, an inability to hook up desktop mail clients directly to Hotmail also damages Hotmail.

Hopefully, their calender implemention will be good – and leverage permissions in Messenger and Spaces.

Wow, I was really expecting calendar to be released with the new Hotmail. Pretty pathetic!

Phunky that is on our “to blog” list. Ping me if I forget.

I would really love to see the possibility of linking the vista calendar to the hotmail calendar.. but then again I assume that would be considered as leveraging monopoly power… *sigh*.

I want to believe that something good will come out of Live Calendar. RSS subscription to events calendars (would be great to subscribe to my Uni calendar and sync my calendar/tasks to my Windows Mobile device), but I suspect it won’t be too much of a difference in terms of features as what currently exists.

I rely on a lot of Windows Live services both on my computer and my mobile device, but there are holes that desperately need to be filled.

What can you say to that, they’re building calendar behind the scenes, I also expect that the version of Windows Live Mail we see at the end of this month will be nothing like the Windows Live Mail Desktop client we’re using now. They’ve been cagey up to now, I don’t see that it will change. But I do suspect we’ll be wow’d when it does appear.
