Spaces offers new photo features

The Space Craft posted tonight on some new features for Spaces photos (thanks, Brandon!):

High resolution photo upload,

highres

and photo printing by HP Snapfish.

Now you can upload “hi resolution ” photos by selecting “optimize photos for printing”.  Note that there is no control over what that resolution is – the post on the Space Craft is exceptionally vague: “When you upload higher resolution photos, your photo albums look even better than before”, and “…because high resolution photos are significantly larger in file size”.

Snapfish, which HP bought in 2005, offers a number of services, including photo printing starting at 12 cents per picture, sharing, storage, editing, and the ability to create photo gifts such as mousepads, coffee cups, and the like.  The service through Spaces is available only in the US at this time, although more markets will be added in the future.

The photos i uploaded were resized to 1600×1200 from 2048×1536 (3MP).

The snapfish integration would be quite handy if it worked in the UK, hopefully it won’t be too long before they expand it to other countries.

I wish they would add the ability to make photos & albums private or to certain contacts, instead of adding low priority (in my view) features such as this, sure it is a great feature but making albums private is more important I think

Whoa…HP and Microsoft working together, again. This makes it really good for me since I favor the two companies…I already use Snapfish to print my pictures and pick up at Walgreens…and I thought convenience couldn’t be further improved… :)
