New Skydrive domains hint at desktop synchronisation

The weekly domain name posts from ResourceShelf have become a useful source of information for Microsoft and Google bloggers. This week is no exception, with Windows Live Skydrive having almost 20 domains registered or transferred to Microsoft servers in the last 7 days. If Microsoft hadn’t already told us that SkyDrive v1 is launching soon, then this would be a bit of a giveaway. However 2 gems that caught my eye were:

  • Skydrivesync.com
  • Syncskydrive.com

That’s right, synching Skydrive with your deskop is in the masterplans somewhere, and you thought Microsoft brought FolderShare just to splash some cash. Dare we even hope this makes it into beta during 2008?

While this is great news, it hardly a surprise. Almost all MS services have a client app. And something like file sharing should almost obviously have a client app to complement the service. But like you said, let’s hope that this is a V1 feature and not something they are simply reserving for V2.

I hope this makes it into v1. Desktop synchronisation (perhaps like WLM shared folders?) is a must if I’m to use this service.

Guys my point was lets hope its a v2 feature, not a v3 feature!

Sweet! That would be pretty awesome. Hopefully they make it work better than their current synching efforts with Mail and Favorites though.
