Live Maps has returned for UK users. Going to http://maps.live.com/ in the UK now takes you to just that, and not MultiMap. Let us rejoice!

and Spain, New Zealand and Australia returned to normal also :)

Although i prefer Live Maps and did not like Multimap (boo) I warmed to 2 features Live maps could snatch of Multimap is the POI (points of interest) and also the map style options.

Just with Post Offices (have a post Year 2000) version as 5 of my local post offices are still POIs on Multimap and they closed early this millenenium. Wifi POIs these can come from The Cloud who oversee majority of the public wifi services in Europe (BT Openzone, TMobile, The Cloud) but these seemed more upto date

If Live Maps Traffic Feature ever goes global it could possibily incorperated with Transport for London (London Underground) and other areas Real Time Information (RTI) public Transport systems such as Bristol & Cardiff where alot of Bus and Rail services use RTI. The Buses can Map the Traffic Congestion on quite alot of routes (First Bristol doing that at the moment using RTI to make services more efficent based on Bristol’s Road Congestion

http://www.nextbusbristol.co.uk/web/default.asp (currently its text based but by summer it should be using Google Maps UI [made a suggestion it should be Live Maps/ Virtual Earth Instead]

Nice. It’s not the name I missed, it was the quality of service. Live Maps is just so much faster than Multimap.

It will be interesting to see how this develops…

Personally Multi Map has some great features that could be incorparated into Live Maps such as traffic and details of nearest POI.

But i love Live Maps more as the GUI and performance is better. Less Ads etc
