Windows Live For Mobile Updated

While we are all eagerly waiting for the release of Windows Live Essentials, let me ask you this: are you used to all those new services yet? I for one love them, especially the new Homepage. This truly is the one-stop-page to keep up to date with what your friends are up to AND holds all the links to the other services. Did you know you can have this same experience on your mobile phone? On any mobile phone (as long as it has an internet browser)?

You can! As the Windows Live Services for mobile have also been updated, as we announced it would earlier.

I really like http://mpeople.live.com, it rivals the facebook version found at http://m.facebook.com/phonebook.php. Hopefully in the future I will be able to start a Live Messenger convo from this list too.

I got excited for a moment when I thought the headline meant,

“Windows Live for Windows Mobile updated”

Sadly not. Are we ever going to see a new (some might say, fixed) version of Windows Live Messenger for Windows Mobile? I am currently unable to sign in and it is most frustrating :-(

Mobile version needs to get Calendar access. Unable to check my calendars on the go.

I don’t want to just be able to check my calendar on the go, I want to be able to add things to my calendar on the go and have it sync back to my Windows Live Calendar (on either Live Hotmail or the desktop Live Mail).

Why haven’t Microsoft added this yet?

Also, why doesn’t the web version of mobile.live.com recognise dynamic themes? It just displays the same state, of your chosen theme, throughout the day :(

    (same for admin.live.com)

Good job. *But* it doesn’t work at all on newer Windows Mobile 6.1 phones (The new HTC/Sony devices that run Opera Mobile as their browser – such as Touch Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD, and Xperia 1). Instead it takes you to the Windows Live Mobile Info page, and not to the home page. Works fine with pocket Internet Explorer, but not in Opera.

@Everyone that wants Live Calendar on their mobile
I totally agree with you all, but I would like to give MS a chance to role this out. The technology must be pretty complicated. Either a pure HTML web version or a client that integrates with WinMob calendar.

What I would like to see is MS acknowledge that somewhere in the next 6 months we will see a web and/or client version of Windows Live Calendar for Mobile.

Liveside presented a WL Mobile roadmap and Calendar was sadly not present. I would suggest that in reality a Client Version would only be possible in WinMob 7 and beyond.
