Microsoft My Phone pre-registration opens in advance of Mobile World Congress

myphonelogo Official news of Microsoft My Phone won’t come until Steve Ballmer’s keynote at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but you can pre-register to get in on the beta of the new service now.  The service, code named “Skybox”, will offer cloud services for mobile phone users, according to an explanation of an unexpected sneak peak at a placeholder page:

This new Microsoft cloud service syncs critical information (e.g., contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, text messages, photos, video, etc) on a user’s mobile phone to  a password protected Web site.  Once synchronized, people can easily back-up and restore mobile phone data.  My Phone provides an easy to use Web portal where people can access and manage content on the phone, and share that information with others.

Sign up now to get on the waiting list for access to the beta.

I hope it will be more than just “a backup” (you have active sync for that). I hope it will sync tasks, calendar, contacts, photos etc with windows live (hotmail, skydrive or mesh). So if you make a change in your live calendar for example, it will get updated to your mobile as well. nevertheless, i just signed up for the waiting list…

@yanverm I agree. Without integration into Windows Live My Phone will be quite useless. I wonder why they didn’t simply build the functionality of My Phone into Windows Live for Windows Mobile.

Let’s they will integrate it. Otherwise the recently cleaned up WinLive mess is back again

Microsoft is at it again. I was just over at the my phone forums on microsoft.com. And, get a load of this…my phone will not sync with ANY of the Live properties…It won’t sync with Live Contacts, Live Calendar, or Live Photos. It’s just going to be an isolated piece of junk service designed so MS will be able to say they have a free Mobile Me competitor. Meanwhile, they aren’t competent enough to get a proper over the air, push, syncing solutions for their Live properties to their Windows Phones. This is pathetic. The Window Live branding Mess continues and is in full force. Now we have Live Calendar and My phone calendar, and they don’t talk to each other. So much for a “Connected” vision.
