Windows Live Mail and Photo Gallery Wave 4 Revealed: Ribbon UI

We told you that Neowin had gotten their hands on some screenshots of Wave 4 Messenger and Writer earlier this month. Now, at the doorstep of 2010, some (very early) screenshots of Wave 4 Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Photo Gallery emerged over at geeksmack.net.

In these screenshots we see that these applications also gained the ribbon interface (love it or hate it). They also posted more screenshots of the Wave 4 Windows Live Writer. In some of the screenshots orange circles appear, which, according to geeksmack, are placeholders. This means no icons have been made for these items yet. We are very curious what these will be replaced with.

We’ll keep you posted!

I hope this is the version of Photo Gallery that has been rumored to include iPhoto/Picasa-style face identification. I love that feature, and want it in WLPG. Don’t see any indication in the screenshots, though.

Earlier this month, Neowin got their hands on exclusive screenshots revealing Windows Live Messenger and Live Writer in the flesh. Today, we received some juicy screenshots revealing more Wave 4 goodness, specifically Mail and Photo Gallery.

These screenshots are of build 15.0.2403.826 of the Wave 4 applications. As you can see in the screenshots, the Ribbon interface has made its way into every Windows Live application with the exception of Messenger. Click to enlarge all images (if they aren’t already at their original size) below.
Above, you can see a menu in Windows Live Writer similar to that of the Office button. The orange circles are placeholders, as in this build no icons have been made for the menu items that have an orange circle next to them in place of an icon
With Photo Gallery, it’s a snap to get your photos and videos from your camera to your PC. Find your favorite photos and share them with friends and family. Make your great photos look even better, and create impressive panoramic photos too
