New on Bing: enhanced Health Instant Answers and more

A new post on the Bing search blog highlights some nice new features in Instant Answers for health related queries, including content from partners and new hard-to-discover search results.  Here’s a Bing search on h1n1:

healthresults

The new Instant Answers return “related conditions”,  “related medications”, and “Medical Centers”, when applicable, and you can drill down into each of the results links:

Here’s the same h1n1 search result on Google:

Oh look at that, yet another US-only feature from Bing. I don’t know why they don’t just mould the fingers of the Statue of Liberty into a big V-sign and tell us to f*ck off properly!

Dude… localization takes time. And your country’s market may not have the same opportunities as the United States’.

      So chillax :p

        Hi Paul,
Do you think my response might have been a bit OTT? :) Granted, it probably was, but I’m telling you – I’m sick and tired of Bing focusing on the US to the detriment of the rest of the world. I’m keeping a lengthening list of Bing stuff that is available only in the US.

If they were serious about Bing catching on in the rest of the world (which, to be fair, they’ve basically admitted they aren’t) they would have dedicated teams around the world working to produce dedicated features for those locales. Just like… ooo…Google do!

Yes… so if they already admitted that they’re focusing primarily on the US market for Bing (most likely to prefect their system and/or features before rolling them out globally) why are you complaining? :p They aren’t doing anything out of the ordinary.

The best thing you could do is to contact your country’s Microsoft branch (or Bing team if they have a local one) and tell them that you want improvements and like Bing very much as a web service.

Why am I complaining? Because I don’t live in the US, that’s why.

I have in the past done what you suggest and got nowhere, thus whinging about it on public forums is my only outlet. Make enough noise and someone will notice. Eventually.

True, and localization is more than just translating. Contents that need deal and cooperation with local content providers would need more time.
But Microsoft really have to fund and reward their local subsidiaries in other countries for something more than selling Windows, Office, Server and other large products so they’re not fixated on only reaching the bottom line.

Besides these US only features, they had the most incomplete street maps compared to competitors too.
