Silverlight for Mobile, more, for Nokia phones?

mstalentnetwork WMPowerUser has spotted a job posting at Microsoft Careers (which is sporting a new redesign of its own, and a new name, the “Microsoft Talent Network”), offering up a job in India for an SDE, and some interesting info for the rest of us.

The posting reveals that Microsoft is planning to target Nokia devices “in the short term, and other Mobile platforms longer term” to deliver the .Net Compact Framework, Visual Studio for Devices, and Silverlight Mobile, and “extend the reach of our developer platform to other dominant industry platforms for Smartphone like Nokia S60.”

We expect to hear a lot more about new Visual Studio tools for mobile at Mix 10 (remember that the beta versions of VS 2010 do not have a mobile component), and this job posting just underscores the depths of Microsoft’s plans for mobile development, and not only on Windows Phones.

Does this potentially mean we’ll get to see WinMobo apps on symbian phones?

Could this have anything to do with the porting over of Office?

No, we won’t see native WM apps on Symbian phones.

What we might see is yet to be written Silverlight apps on both WM and Symbian. And maybe some .Net CF apps will be ported to Symbian as well.

Hopefully this is an “add to staff” as opposed to a new position. If a new position then MS will be way too late to the game is dev is just getting started (which I personally doubt is the situation here).
