Bing Maps at TED – Blaise’s session now available

Blaise Aguera y Arcas showed off some very cool new stuff from Bing Maps at TED a couple of days ago, and the video has just been posted, so here it is:

Just a note that the Streetside Photos app is available in Bing Maps now, but the World Wide Telescope, the Indoor Panoramas, and Video Overlay are coming but not yet available.  One other point that escaped mention when we first posted, Blaise talks about the video overlay being available not only on the PC, “for telepresence”, but also “on the spot, for augmented reality”.  When you use it on the spot, “it means that you’ll be able to bring all that metadata about the world, to you”.

What an amazing presentation! Just like the other TED presentation done by Blaise.

    Blaise is a great presenter.

One thing that I don’t like about Bing Maps, and this goes back to Live Maps, is that it’s browser based. I don’t mind a map online, but I really like having a program like Google Earth on my computer. If only MS would release Bing Maps Desktop. Awesome!

World wide telescope is available today as a standalone app; it just isn’t integrated with bing maps yet. Its fun to play with even if you don’t know squat about the sky. this is largely do to the impressive library of expert authored guided tours that are built into it. try it:
