New Live Writer Wave 4 Screenshots Emerge

Update: Our friend PicturePan2 has posted a couple of higher resolution screenshots over at LiveSino.net, go take a look.

You might remember back in December when Neowin posted pictures of the ribbon that will be appearing in Live Writer when Wave 4 [eventually] reaches us. Well now some new screenshots have emerged on cnBeta.com. So, let’s take a look at them.

And here we have a similar menu to that in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

A new addition to Live Writer looks to incorporate the new emoticons we saw in Jeff Kunis’ blog post. I’ll be honest, I’m in two minds about this, on one hand, it’s great, on the other hand, it makes my own plugin redundant. Ah well.

cnBeta also link to an animated gif, although it doesn’t really show too much (other than a Live Clipboard option, remember that?!).

So, what do you guys think of the new Live Writer screenshots? I have my own thoughts, like why did they move the categories to the top of the blog post, for one. Not sure I like that to be honest. Let the discussions commence.

    Can’t see the pics…

i presume the emoticons will be refreshed with the new ones from Messenger… but overal, looks good. My only ‘concern’ is that as platforms such as WordPress mature, the need for this app, at least to me, fades from relevance..

    • Chris

True, but then again, its a nice user friendly way to get your posts out

      • William D

Oh, I agree – and certainly offline writing and multiple accounts are invaluable additions.

Do a refresh, have sorted the images out.

HTML styles? Hmm, very interesting…….. I like so far!

It is very similar to HTML post page in Sharepoint 2010.

would be nice if Live Writed will provide something more than preparing blog posts

I agree completely with your thought. It’s almost like Word!

      • Chris

        almost, but not quite.

Frankly, I don’t care if it isn’t quite like Word. Live Writer is a perfect writing application, not only for blogs. Shame that is limited to blog publishing.

    • insanelyapple

yeah, a kind Wordpad that is more like Word with ability to store files on SkyDrive

      • Chris

Again why? Why would you want to store your blog posts on skydrive? I see no meaning in that

    • Chris

Why should it? It does exactly what its intended to do. Create blog posts. Do you want it to do your taxes?

  • FremyCompany

I don’t like the new emoticons. Some are very great, but others have lost the meaning the old icons had. It will became even worse when people using WLM 8 will see us icons, because the meaning may have changed a lot…

    • Chris

Why would anyone still be using 8?

the new ones are just like the old ones, but modernize. a much needed makeover. old ones have been around since the MSN glory days

Speaking of Blogs, I wonder what if any improvements we’ll see with Live Spaces. Any word from MVPs if Microsoft will be touching this in Wave 4?

    • technogran

I for one hope so! Let’s face it, its long overdue as our Spaces didn’t get touched at all in Wave 3! New themes, new layouts, new modules for twitter/facebook et al, new fonts, it badly needs bringing right up to date with the rest of the site.

      • Chris

Spaces NEEDS to be simplified in my opinion. It has way to many themes and layouts. Why can’t they just make things simple?

        • technogran

Yes but they are all old fashioned and have been there forever. I would love to see more complete themes and layouts done by others similar to all those you can use in Blogger.
You are right that they do appear complicated to some to use, that’s because unlike other blogging sites, the themes are kept seperate from the layout to give the user more choice.
But Spaces still badly needs updating,

          • Chris

Too many choices to be honest.

I’d really like them to rewrite spaces. I mean sure many blogs will be lost, but it would just be like MSN groups. (BTW, what ever happen to Windows live groups?)
