Even more Wave 4 screenshots emerge (Part 1)

Looks like someone has been very busy taking/leaking screenshots, as even more of them appeared on cnBeta.com. Starting off with a screenshot of all the Windows Live apps containing the Ribbon:
W4Ribbon
In the above screenshot you see (from top to bottom): Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Live Writer and Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Photo Gallery

Speaking about Photo Gallery, in this article there are screenshots of a newer build then the ones posted before. As you can see here there are less Orange Circles (placeholders):
W4PhotoGallery

If we take a look at the top one there we notice not only that it has publish possibilities to Skydrive, Facebook, flickr, YouTube and Groups but also something called Photo fuse.

Picturepan2 from LiveSino.net found that this creates a new photo from the best parts of similar photos. Interesting!

Toolbar(s)

The Windows Live Essentials installer will also offer the Bing Bar. If features from the Windows Live Toolbar will be integrated into the Bing Bar we don’t know, I for one sure hope so. The screenshot shown on cnBeta doesn’t look different from the Bing Bar already available. Or will the suite offer two toolbars…

I wonder if Photo Fuse is what used to be known as Auto-Collage?

Actually, sounds more like one of the two possibilities from Microsoft Research:
      - Blender: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/i3l/blender.aspx
      - GroupShot: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/groupshot/

Collage simply creates a collage based on any number of photos you select. It’s actually quite UN-interesting.

FUSE sound like it will take several images of the same setting, figure out which parts are “the best” and overlay them to create one final superior image. Of couse what is “best” is subjective. I like my photos with depth-of-field (blurred background). If FUSE tries to use an image with a sharp background, then it defeats the purpose of my image. On the other hand, it may behelpful for reducing noise in darker images.

Photo Fuse is different than auto collage.

I’m 100% behind consolidating toolbars but I agree that certain aspects of Windows Live Toolbar should be incorporated. Good news is that Microsoft refers to Bing Toolbar as a platform. So we’ll see if the Windows Live button will get an update as well.

I actually prefer the Windows Live integration in the Bing Bar. It allows you to go to your Profile in and your Spaces page.

Thats fine but currently there is no preview capability like the Windows Live Toolbar has. Hopefully that is addressed..it looks like they designed the button UI in such a way that it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Since it looks more and more like Bing Bar is going to replace WLT, I’ve decided to enable it again in my browser. I made comments about it before but I really think they need to provide an option to disable the behavior of the Bing Bar changing when it detects you have performed a search (whether that be from the webpage, browser search or toolbar). Especially if you are performing a search on Bing itself. As it currently stands, its a bit too distracting. Also, I think they should have a icon only mode so more buttons can fit and the toolbar height can be shortened a hair. Otherwise I like it.

…one more thing, Bing Bar needs to allow users to switch between linked Live IDs.

…possibilities to Skydrive, Facebook, flickr, YouTube and Groups but also something called Photo fuse.

If you thought Panoramic stitching was amazing, wait until you see Photo Fuse.
It will knock your socks off!

This all looks good and I’m definitely looking forward to using the new Windows Live Writer but it seems I’ve been hearing about the “up and coming” Live Wave 4 and a “possible beta next week” since October of 2009. Although I know it’s all free of charge applications and services and thus one shouldn’t complain, it’s a bit irritating when months go by and it’s still nothing but rumors.

Hmmm, I seem to be ranting a bit. Guess I need more coffee? ;-)
