A public beta of Microsoft Messenger for Mac version 8 (build #08.00.00.100305) was released a few days ago, after nearly two years between updates. Looks like there’s still quite a ways to go, judging from the Known Issues in the release notes:
2.1 Display pictures do not display in the conversation window
2.2 You cannot send files to your contacts.
2.3 You cannot make Audio/Video calls on some network configurations.
2.4 Some custom emoticons do not display
The new version requires Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), doesn’t work with corporate accounts, but does come in 11 languages. Needless to say, 9 to 5 Mac isn’t too impressed, but you can give it a try yourself if you’re a Mac user and let us know what you think.
