WindowsLivePreview.com goes live: “What’s New in Messenger”

We just went to write up a story on www.windowslivepreview.com, which was rumored to go live tomorrow (April 28th), but looky here, it’s live already:

wlpreview

(we’ve been hitting some error pages, looks like the site isn’t quite ready for prime time, so if you can’t reach it, you should be able to soon)

So far, it looks like only Messenger is previewed, although My Microsoft Life is reporting that another website, www.hotmailpreview.com, will have more info about, umm, Hotmail, but it doesn’t appear to be available quite yet.  A third site, www.messengerpreview.com, isn’t up yet, either.

The sites are registered to Microsoft PR firm Waggener Edstrom, who obviously are going to be busy promoting Windows Live and Wave 4 in the coming weeks and months.

Looks like lots of information in the new site, including what appears to be a push by Microsoft to promote Windows Live’s privacy features:

msgrprivacy

and a feature by feature comparison of Windows Live Messenger with other IM services, including:

  • Real time photo and video sharing
  • Hi def video chat
  • video messages
  • real time gaming
  • social networks aggregation
  • integration with email inbox
  • IM to SMS integration
  • iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Phone, and Nokia apps
  • Partner APIs

Looks like we’re just about ready to really talk about Windows Live Wave 4, exciting!

Looks like we just got a quick peek, a number of blogs have reported that the sites are set to go live tomorrow :)

Real-time photo and video sharing from web services such as YouTube and Bing Images? Awesome! What about that Metro-like UI for the main messenger window that was leaked a while back? Is that still going to be there?

The site crapped out again while I was view “what’s new”. I think I saw somethign about badges and achievments. That sounds promising.

Yeah, I saw the bing integration stuff too. What I saw briefly looks to be the service to combing them all. :0)

Well I was in for a minute. I was looking around and reading stuff than I got a cool looking gray login page, I tried to go back and anything I now click on I get the login page. I tried my windows live id and it reloaded with the same login page.
    Anyone else?

    • majg

I didn’t get as far as a login page. But what I’m reading about Messenger updates is that this is one heck of an update.. feature-wise.

I like the focus on privacy.

Got in again, seems you can get in from the back. Try this link

messengerpreview.com now redirects to windowslivepreview.com, which is giving me this:

    Windows Live
    Reviewer’s Guide
    Coming soon on April 28th

http://windowslivepreview.com/hotmail/ redirects to a login page, so evidently something else will be coming… though it is a while after the 28th.
