The making of Streetside

Don’t we all just love photography? I know I do! After all, what better way to share what you’ve seen? It was only yesterday that I was out taking pictures of the Liberation Day festivities here! Where am I going with this? Streetside in Bing maps is also photography, but taken to a whole different level!

Chris Pendleton (Bing Maps Technical Evangelist) and Pasquale DeMaio (Bing Maps program Manager) have a video up on Channel 9 which gives you a little sneak peak into how the Streetside user experience for Bing Maps gets created. I’ve embedded it below for you.

Enjoy!

    Impressive stuff.

I know Bing Maps is technically superior, yet I still find myself using Google Maps all the time. Damn you Google for being the go to guy ;p.

I’m finding myself using Bing Maps more and more, but the fact is that Google Maps currently has more Street View data available. I live in Knoxville, TN and we’ve been fully mapped on Street View for over a year. Bing hasn’t incorporated our area yet. For those areas that are lucky enough to have StreetSide…boy howdy, it rocks!

While nothing can beat street side/view, birds eye view is one thing that surpass google maps by the mile.

Plus, it seems Bing is adding more and more high res imagery like today’s recent update.

I surprised a link wasn’t given to test the new streetside technology.
