Windows Live Essentials Beta On Thursday?

According to Francisco Martin Garcia, we’ll see the beta of Windows Live Essentials next Thursday/Friday (24/25 June). He also notes that the final is delayed by half a month.

Let’s hope he is right, we’ve waited long enough now!  (thanks Gilly)

I may have missed it previously but theres now a ‘View Synced Files’ button in my Skydrive which, when pressed, takes me to the WLE Sync page. I’m sure it wasn’t there earlier in the week.

Hmm, not seing a “View Synced Files” button here but I do see there’s a “View synced folders” menu item on my SkyDrive Root folder, which does indeed take me to http://windowslivepreview.com/essentials/sync/
I’m not sure on how long it’s been there but if anything, it is a sign of things coming up :)

Yes you’re right. When SkyDrive Wave 4 was released, the “View Synced Folders” menu item appeared on the folders list. This link takes you to http://devices.live.com (Windows Live Devices). However, previously http://devices.live.com would redirect you to http://sync.live.com, but in the past few days they’re starting to redirect to the http://windowslivepreview.com/essentials/sync webpage. Definitely something’s coming up soon! ;)

FINALLY!! Cant wait for next Thursday then. :-)

Honestly cannot wait for this, Wave 3 looks so obsolete compared to this one!

I really hope so. The new super tight lipped Microsoft is a true pain. The Microsoft of old might not have delivered everything they promised, but at least you felt like you could provide feedback into the development process. The new Microsoft doesn’t even bother to provide a schedule as to when their new products and services will be available.

I know that Apple is considered the hot company right now, and that everyone wants to emulate them; but there are certain things (like the secrecy, paranoia, and disregard for customers) that should not be copied or imitated. I never thought that I would say this, but I actually miss the Microsoft of the Vista era. They were relatively open (orders of magnitude better than Apple, at least), communicative, and accessible.

The new beast is not an improvement.

    • Mario Albertico

That new beast has also given us Windows 7 (lots of community involvement with betas), Windows Phone (that came out of nowhere and got people really excited), Project Natal (also hush hush and very innovative), Office 2010 (also huge community testing), and of course Bing (tried to keep it as secret as possible, but still surprised many with total rebranding and product upgrades). Windows Live is kind of in the middle; they get people involved, but at the same time seem to make decisions that go against public demand. This could be due to the high pressures of free products and services with many users to please and very tough competition.

Hopefully the month delay means they’ve been hearing the backlash on how shackled the new Live Sync is compared to Mesh, and they’ll be adding needed improvements such as paid storage and integration into Skydrive.

    • jtmat

Flip side is they are also hearing how wonderful LiveSync is compared to everything else on the market.

I’m very estatic about the new LiveSync… it sounds like everything I wanted. Although, it would have been nice to sync the 2 gb with the online office folder and have the documents sync back to my laptops and desktops.

I’m happy with what they are bringing.

We all await it but in meantime how is the Hotmail roll-out going! Who has it already? What do they think about it!

  • Destroyzer

    Cool!
    I’m ancious for this.
    Friday, wait for me!

  • http://doctorwhofan98.wordpress.com/ doctorwhofan98

Thursday? Or Friday? Great! I have been waiting for the beta for ages! I can’t wait for the new Windows Live Mail. I like Outlook 2010, but it treats like an Office worker eg. ‘Out Of Office’ and ‘Meeting’. But I like the ribbon. Windows Live Mail will get the best of all the programs. And as for the new Messenger…2011 Essentials is going to be fantastic. And, hopefully, I’ll get the new Hotmail soon…

  • Daysi

It’s probably too late for many users. Since months the .NET messenger network is terrible slow. 90% of the messages are not getting delivered to the receipient during “peak hours”. Hours later it works just fine. Most of my contacts already switched to another network. Sad, Microsoft. Sad.

  • Daysi

Just one question: Can anyone confirm that the new WLM has Facebook CHAT support?

  • Goodwood8

ohh thank god. Now I dont need to be connected to both MSN and FB. Add a news feed feature and voila! I never knew microsoft’s cloud seriveces were so amazing … only if there products were more consolidated …it seems that in a few days ill be having an OLSB account, a live essentials account, I already have a skydrive account … lots lots of features. INTERGRATE EVERYTHING for God’s sake. And you have the best and perfect serivce. WAYYY better than the best at the business, google.

  • Daysi

Why does http://microsoft-journal.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!A33F7112F6C1D499!888.entry say “Windows Live Milestone 4 Now“? Posted yesterday.

  • EK

So, its going to be build 15.4.2847.0621 …. mmm interesting…

  • Alex

Good one, Daysi. It does say that is is now. And that makes no sense… if it is out now, where can I get it?
