Bing releases the new “Bing Bar”, just for Matt Cutts

Well, ok, maybe Matt Cutts of Google won’t be too excited about this, after all.  But Bing has just released a new “Bing Bar” anyway.

The new toolbar, available here, adds some nice new features, including Facebook integration, mail alerts, weather advisories, and if you’re in the US, a preview of Bing Rewards alerts.

Bing Director Stefan Weitz (edit: oops fixed spelling error, sorry Stefan!) talked with Bing Toolbar Program Manager Charlie French and they walk us through the new features of the Bing Bar in this video:

And yes, the Bing Bar does collect certain information about your use of your computer, so if you do many Google searches, you might make Matt Cutts mad.

I just installed it (primarily for the bing rewards credits), but it’s actually quite slick. I’m not a big fan of browser toolbars, but I think I’ll keep this one around.

Yeah, I have the bing toolbar installed only for the rewards credit. I so wish they had a different mechanism because I love having IE9 simplistic look. (which the toolbar messes up a bit)

Just installed it here, too. It does a good job of blending in to IE9, for a toolbar, and first impressions are that the FB integration is nice. We’ll give it a try and report back.

I looks good ! but if your using a favorites bar with 5+ links it doesn’t blend well looks really bad…IE9 doesn’t allow you to move the toolbars up or down so it makes it look bad try it out you will see.

too may favicons and the icons from bing toolbar it overdoes it.

This is the most useful toolbar ever, alongside Firebug and Web Developer.

Google’s infamous “toolbar” is nothing but thinly-veiled spyware used by the corporation to collect information from you. If Google wants the data, they should pay us for it.

I am furious at Google and desperate subservient corporations like Adobe (who are paid to do it) for forcing me to download and install Google’s useless toolbar with buggy software like Acrobat. I then have to uninstall it, because it overrides important settings and needlessly duplicates features already available in the browser. It’s a disgrace. Don’t be used by Google.

    Boycott Google.

I have the new IE9 and was going to get this, for Chrome though, which I use way more often. The problem is that it says it’s only for IE. Sorry Chrome and Firefox users. And anyone else for that matter.
