Windows Phone "Mango" finally supports multiple calendars, calendar subscriptions, and to-do lists

Windows Live CalendarMicrosoft officially unveiled Windows Phone “Mango” this morning in New York City, and touted a few major features coming in the next major release of the mobile operating system. However, it was almost impossible to cover all of the over 500 new features said to be in this “Mango” update within the short 45 minutes presentation. Luckily the launch events around the have revealed further information about the “Mango” release, particularly around the Calendar functionality in Windows Phone.

Firstly, Neowin reports from the New Zealand launch event that multiple calendars and calendar subscriptions will now be supported in Windows Phone “Mango”:

We were able to confirm that Hotmail birthday calendars are now available, and support for multiple Windows Live calendar subscriptions is now available.

WMPowerUser.com also spotted from the Brazil launch event that To-Do lists will now be supported in the Calendar Hub. Below is an image of it in action:

Calendar To-Do Support

These are amongst some of the things that we’ve heard many LiveSide readers wanted to see on their Windows Phone, finally being able to take the full Windows Live Calendar functionalities down to your phone. We wonder what else is in store for Windows Phone “Mango”?

Awesome. Multiple calendars was top of my “want” list for Mango.

      I agree.

Would this cover having multiple Google Calendars as well?  Or is it limited to Live Calendars?

Gmail/Google cr-apps uses Microsoft active sync so yes.

        Thanks.

So the changes to Mango lies in it’s “on the phone” Activesync implementation? If so, it would make sense … I’ll wait and see though.

Just to clarify… Im assuming that any service that uses Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, whether it’s Gmail, Exchange, Cisco Web EX, etc should beable to use the multipule calendar feature on the Mango release.  However, I’m aslo assuming you wont beable to directly subscribe to a webdav calendar.

So this means that I can have the calendar for say Twit.tv and LordKat.tv (they both use Google Calendar) show up in my Calendar “app” right?

I don’t really have the need for a calendar for my own life, but would be nice to use it to have controll over the “web schedule”

Sounds good, but I really only use my Exchange calendar (though it would be really nice to be able to see my wife’s calendar [also an Exchange calendar, but on a different server] next to mine on my Windows Phone).  What I *REALLY* want to see happen with Mango is the ability to properly display recurring events and appointments made on non-Gregorian calendars.
