Brand new Nokia Windows Phone revealed via design patent in the US (and we’ve seen it before!)

German blog NokiaPort.de recently noticed that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) had granted a design patent filed by Nokia Corporation on March 13, 2012 (D655,698). The filing includes a new smartphone design from the Finnish company, a phone that have yet made it to the market. Check out the design below:

Nokia Design Patent

As spotted by MyNokiaBlog.com, what’s exciting about this filing is that the phone design matches exactly to a Nokia Windows Phone render that was leaked back in August last year (August 10 to be exact, which also happens to be the date the patent was filed). Check out the renders below and see it for yourself:

Nokia Windows Phone 1

Nokia Windows Phone 2

If you look at the positions of the metal strip of Back, Start and Search buttons on the front, the location of the camera at back, as well as the hardware buttons on the side, these renders match exactly that to the Nokia design patent. This indicates that this could potentially be a new Nokia Windows Phone coming to market soon.

We have heard about a few new Nokia Windows Phones in the pipeline, including the Windows Phone 8-based handsets Nokia “Prodigy” and Nokia “AC/DC”. Recently over at OccasionalGamer.com Game Stats page, a new device named Nokia “Fluid” also popped up.

How do you like this new Windows Phone design? Do you think this device will eventually come to market? Let us know in the comments below.

This one is awesome… even better than lumia style. If this will mount apollo, i’ll change my omnia 7 for sure.

Sort of looks like a melted iPhone. Kind of cool though.

If you look at the 610 it also resembles one of the leaked handsets. Minus the soft texture it seemed to have in the picture. That would leave that final design that everyone loved.

  • Rodrigo

Still much prefer the Lumia 900.  The Lumia looks sleek and thin.

    orange please.

Awesome design, finally something different from all those look alike-phones available on the market… (well, except those colourful Lumias around there in small numbers)

    Sony Xperia anyone?

So, it appears that the smartphone in the ‘supposedly’ leaked photo is the type of Windows Phones that will be headed to cheap international markets. The design is simple and the screen looks a bit on the small scale. Having the capactive buttons on a different strip of metal that on the main screen indicates the use of cheaper materials for this device. Nevertheless, Nokia managed to make something cheap look amazingly attractive for any market in my opinion. Of course I could be all wrong and the picture could end up being a fake :)

I actually prefer the look of this to the Lumia’s, but… they look a little thick. If they released this design with a thinner form factor, I’d definitely upgrade from my Samsung.
