We’ve heard plenty of rumors and leaks about Huawei’s second Windows Phone 8 device – the Huawei Ascend W2, but the device was never officially revealed. The device appeared on China Mobile’s advertisement a short while ago, but the specifications for the device was still largely unknown. Today, the device was finally officially shown off at the 2013 Mobile Asia Expo, with full specifications available. Below is a hands-on video of the real device, courtesy of Engadget:
Contrary to previous rumors, the Huawei Ascend W2 is actually another low-end budget Windows Phone 8 device similar to its predecessor Ascend W1. Below are the official specifications:
- 4.3” IPS WVGA display
- 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8230 processor
- 512MB RAM
- 8GB storage with microSD expansion
- 1700mAh battery
- 134 x 66.7 x 9.9mm
What’s interesting is that the three backlit keys actually changes color to match your desired theme on Windows Phone 8. The screen also comes with “Glove mode”, similar to Nokia’s Super Sensitive Touch screen, so that you can operate the phone with your gloves on.
No pricing or release dates were announced during the event, but it is understood the device will be available on China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network.
