New Storage Service: Windows Live Drive

Mary Jo Foley over at Microsoft-Watch reveals Microsoft is developing a virtual harddrive service for Windows Live. Here's a little more from Mary Jo:
"Sources close to Microsoft described that service as one where Microsoft would back up users' personal files on CD and/or DVD. Users also would be able to back up financial files, legal documents, digital photos, online music and home videos, and even put their most important files into a "digital safe-deposit box," hosted by Microsoft, sources said."

The service will be available as a subscription.

Pretty much, with Windows Live Drive, you will be able to access your computer throught he web and is perfect for folks who travel with laptops and need to access their desktop PC's or other.

Its possible you will be able to use Windows Live OneCare to do remote backups to your Windows Live Drive. Windows Live Drive is part of the Contacts and Storage segment of Windows Live. So you can certainly expect other Windows Live Services will take advantage of Windows Live Drive as well.

Windows Vista's Mobility Center is also expected to take advantage of this service.
