Live Search comes to Facebook with custom search page

Mashable just spotted the new implementation of Live Search integrated into Facebook.  According to Mashable:

The implementation is fairly straightforward: in the search box on the top right of Facebook, which is also used for quick access to your friends’ profiles and intrasite search, there is now an option to “Search the Web,” which in turn triggers a query of Microsoft Live Search. Results then display within a custom interface designed for Facebook.

Virtual Earth adds five new 3D cities and Italy imagery

The Map Room is reporting that 3D imagery for five new cities has been added to Virtual Earth.  The new cities include the following: Sacramento in 3D

- Minneapolis - St. Paul, MN
- Tacoma, WA
- Sacramento, CA
- Various L.A. suburbs
- Irving, TX

It definitely seems like an odd choice of cities since larger ones such as Chicago, New York, and Miami have not been added.  If you don't know, Virtual Earth's 3D feature was launched back in the beginning of November.  It allows you to fly through 3D versions of (now 20) major cities.

The Map Room's post also noted that Virtual Earth's imagery for Italy has been significantly upgraded.  They speculate that the new imagery is a result of a recent deal between Microsoft and a Norwegian pictometry company.

pfft Toronto doesn't have 3D, or even Bird's Eye yet!

And you can barely zoom in on the Aerial.

I just looked at NYC, and there are a few 3D buildings.  When I last looked 2 days ago, it was near where the WTC were.

There are now 3D buildings in Sydney (Australia) and also a 3D rendition of Uluru (also Australia)! They are making good progress.
