Folders and Photo Gallery are now in beta

Well we just got the email, and Windows Live Folders and Windows Live Photo Gallery are now available if you have been invited.  You should have received an invitation to "Windows Live Beta" a few weeks ago, and if you completed that, you're in!  Make sure to sign up for Folders as early as possible:

We have limited availability for Windows Live Folders, so make sure you sign up between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm PST on Wednesday, June 27th. Also, Live Folders is available in the United States only at this time. You will not be able to access the Live Folders site if you are outside the Unites States.

We'll have more, of course, once we get to playing with these two new betas.

It works fine in Firefox outside US but if you use it in IE it says you cannot use it as you are outside of the US. Hopefully they will not fix this

So yeah, what's up? Why are we able to login? I don't remember signing up or receiving an email? Could it be because we're signed up with FolderShare?

I like Folders.  Photo Gallery still doesn't beat Photoshop Lightroom for me, but then again, MS doesn't support my camera on Vista.  I have to use LR to view the pictures since they are in .CRW format.

I am hoping they will come out with a desktop upload program for folders to make it easier.

Absolutely ridiculous that we're not allowed to use Folders in Canada. Sometimes Live really pisses me off.

Well, I'm rather unimpressed.

Or: The service is currently useless to me.

1) 50 MB file limitation? 500 MB overall space? Sorry, not going to cut it. I have PowerPoints larger than 50 MB... and while I _could_ reduce them, I ain't just to use a bloody service.

2) I have to SIT and WAIT for it to upload? Er, no.

3) I want a bulk upload, and more importanttly, a Backup Syncing application.

--> Integrated with Foldershare. So I can upload some folders to the web, and sync others across computers.

That said, it looks like they got permissions right. I haven't tested with a non-Messenger contact though.. how do you do that? I think they'd auto-generate a passphrase and send it to the email with a login string.

But I cannot see anything at Photos Gallery link, could someone, PLEASE, post the direct link for downloading ?

@Hb8 As it mentioned, if you'r a XP user, you have to get Windows Desktop Search and Windows Imaging Codecs installed, or there will be a tip telling you that propsys.dll is missing.

@tardisinc As far as I know a new version of Windows Live Foldershare will integrate with WLFolders. As for your second point how do you expect it to instantly upload with just the refresh of the browser? Get a faster internet connection or some patience (or just open another browser tab or window ;) ).

Actually, yes, I already had installed the Windows Imaging codec and desktop search as per instructions (I DO read them) but I'm still getting the propsys.dll error

I agree.  Having to sit and wait for an upload isn't all that great.

Turns out it's rather difficult to create a progress bar for uploads over HTTP.  However, we've managed to tackle it with Fresh Logic Studios Folders (http://www.freshlogicstudios.com/Products/Folders).  Thought you might be interested in checking it out.  We also have a few other goodies like drag/drop, right click, cut/copy/paste, etc
