Live Search comes to Facebook with custom search page

Mashable just spotted the new implementation of Live Search integrated into Facebook.  According to Mashable:

The implementation is fairly straightforward: in the search box on the top right of Facebook, which is also used for quick access to your friends’ profiles and intrasite search, there is now an option to “Search the Web,” which in turn triggers a query of Microsoft Live Search. Results then display within a custom interface designed for Facebook.

@live Address Registration - part 42 [Does not work now]

Update: This method does not work now. We'll keep you posted on when they become available again.

Last week we briefly saw the @live.com registration open for an hour and just as quickly got closed. Unfortunately, at that time, a lot of you didn't get chance to register your @live.com address. Well, try again smile_wink

 1. Go to www.hotmail.com, click on Sign up, and choose a free account, as before.
 2. Now, you will be taken to a signup page that shows an @hotmail.com domain for your email address.
 3. Go to the address bar, make hmnewuser.aspx read newuser.aspx and look along until you see &hm=1, after removing that hit enter.
 4. Your @hotmail magically becomes @live.

So, for example, https://signup.live.com/hmnewuser.aspx?mkt=en-us&revipc=US&ts=3967950&sh=62Zm&hm=1&ru=http%3a%2f%2fmail.live.com%2f%3fnewuser%3dyes&rx=http%3a%2f%2fget.live.com%2fmail%2foverview&rollrs=04&lic=1

becomes

https://signup.live.com/newuser.aspx?mkt=en-us&revipc=US&ts=3967973&sh=P1iS&ru=http%3a%2f%2fmail.live.com%2f%3fnewuser%3dyes&rx=http%3a%2f%2fget.live.com%2fmail%2foverview&rollrs=04&lic=1

(this second link probably won't work, but just follow the instructions). Good luck.

SL

why do have some people @live.com, some @windowslive.com and some @livemail.com? What are they doing different?

ScottIsAFool wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

It's probably a regional thing.

Anony33 wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Which language I have to select in my Internet Explorer to get @windowslive.com and @livemail.com? I just get @live.com!!

I don't think we're ment to know that :p

ThePhoenix wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Anony33, can you copy the URL that gives you the @Live options and paste it here ?

ScottIsAFool wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42
on 07-19-2007 5:43 PM

I don't think that will work. I think there is some kind of session handling that stops links being posted.

Anony33 wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42
I don't think we're ment to know that :p
Well we should just know where are the people that get @livemail.com and @windowslive.com from.

To get @live.com you have to be from USA, now people with @livemail.com and @windowslive.com please tell us where are you from so we can change the language in our browser and get those too.

We are working to fix a temporary problem with our sign-up service.

Please try again.

Error code: 10

Still working here Mirek. Or are you getting that error after filling in your details and clicking submit?

senthil wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Yes it is working still, any idea how to create @livemail.com ?

Chris wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Guys, if you want a certain suffix (live.com as opposed to live.co.uk) you need to visit the corresponding get.live.com url and then click signup.

Live.com: http://get.live.com/en-us/mail/overview

Anony33 wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42
on 07-19-2007 7:16 PM

@Chris: yea but which is the page for @livemail.com and @windowslive.com?

Contz wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Please can someone in the US create me contz

ScottIsAFool wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

To follow on from what Chris said, for live.com it would be http://get.live.com/en-us/mail/options then click on free account.

ThePhoenix wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Tried both of those, just sends me through to get.live.com when I alter the URL

senthil wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42
on 07-19-2007 7:35 PM

I got the trick. After following the above steps, use the javascript method to register any domain specific email ids.

Note: livemail.com is not registered by microsoft, so no live hotmail box associated with it.

BLOCKED SCRIPTfunction r(q){} function s(q){e[q] = new Option(a[q],a[q])}; r(e = document.getElementById("idomain").options);r(d="live.");r(a = new Array("hotmail.com","hotmail.co.uk","livemail.com","msn.com",d+"com",d+"be",d+"co.uk",d+"de",d+"fr",d+"it"/*mEss.be*/,d+"nl")); for (i=0;i<a.length;i++){ s(i ) }alert("Success - additional domains added!");

senthil wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

It seems they fixed it, newuser.aspx redirects to get.live.com

Chris wrote re: @live Address Registration - part 42

Yup they fixed it. Hope you all got what you wanted :)

Don't worry, you can enjoy your "name@live.as" as well.

It's powered by Windows Live Domains.

Just check the link I provide.
