Yes Hotmail was having a few problems

I love the blogging policy and speed of the Hotmail team.

"Just wanted to let everyone know we’re aware of the difficulties accessing Hotmail/Live Hotmail right now – you may get “Server is Temporarily Unavailable” when logging in. We’re working hard right now to restore service to all users, and we apologize for the inconvenience."

Hotmail is now working again. Its great to see that some teams are more than translucent.

Well at least I know I'm not crazy. :-)

I was hoping that a new release was happening... maybe even seeing the new Calendar. I guess not.. :(

translucent?  They had a problem and they acknowledged it.  Nothing special.  If Xbox Live has an outage do you not think Major Nelson or someone would acknowledge it and mention they were working on it?

That isn't translucency.  That is customer service.  The Xbox team (and I'd put Zune in this category) are renowned for their lack of translucency.  But since they are kicking butt...nobody really minds.  :)
