Microsoft to buy Yahoo!?

y3 This news is hitting the internet pretty rapidly. Microsoft have offered to buy Yahoo! for $44.6 billion! This move is to try and bolster Microsoft's position in the online services market in its continuing battle with Google. In some aspects, this move can be seen as a shock, but in others, it isn't, after all, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger users have been able to talk to each other for quite some time now. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and what it offers. I'm sure there will be many more discussions on this to come.

I creat a poll at polls.zoho.com/.../do-you-like-microsoft-to-buy-yahoo . Vote to express your thoughts on this Microsoft's attempt, and see the result.

I think Microsoft should have first bought Amazon, THEN Yahoo!.

Amazon has more going for it at the moment than Y!. (large online store, ebook reader, DRM-free music, etc.)

Yahoo! has been really improving their sites lately (better than most of the MSN UI refreshes!), and they have always had some good services. Though their search is the worst. They also have Flickr.

I hope if Microsoft does buy Yahoo!, the transition will go as smooth as possible. And Microsoft doesn't alienate new employees and current users.
