Live Search comes to Facebook with custom search page

Mashable just spotted the new implementation of Live Search integrated into Facebook.  According to Mashable:

The implementation is fairly straightforward: in the search box on the top right of Facebook, which is also used for quick access to your friends’ profiles and intrasite search, there is now an option to “Search the Web,” which in turn triggers a query of Microsoft Live Search. Results then display within a custom interface designed for Facebook.

Microsoft switches personalised live.com homepage to my.live.com

In an email sent out to Windows Live users, Microsoft today announced that from mid-April, personalised Live.com pages will be available from http://my.live.com. Just last week, the title of the page switched to "Windows Live Personalized Experience", suggesting that it may very well be seeing some actual feature updates soon.

Now with home.live.com, my.live.com and live.com, its now slightly easier for end-users to know exactly what page they should be using for different purposes. Add My MSN into the mix though (there's an update on the way for that too), and it seems like we have too many pages trying to achieve the same aim. Full email is after the jump.

Dear Windows Live user,

Starting in mid April, we have a new URL for your Live.com Personalized Page! You can now access your personalized page by signing in with your Windows Live ID directly at http://my.live.com.

Visit http://my.live.com today to view your personalized page and make our new URL your Homepage, or add it to your Favorites.

You can continue to use Live Search from within your personalized page, or you can search directly from www.live.com.

While you are on your personalized page, please visit the new Directory under the Add Stuff link.

Thanks,
The Windows Live Team

Got the e-mail as well but didn't post about it on Ars for one simple reason:

my.live.com redirects to www.live.com so it really doesn't mean much. I was hoping it means live.com would be changing, but it's really just another subdomain offering.

my.live.com as the personalized page still just goes to live.com for me using English Canada.

Why they do this, I have no idea. Google offers their personlized page without forcing you not to just because of your location.

my.live.com redirects me to www.live.com too (En-US, in USA now), but I think this e-mail was sent out in preparation. If they're going to change stuff in a few weeks, most people are already prepared and using the my.live.com-version.

It's better news than expected, I'd expect them to drop the personalized experience alltogether, because of the lack of updates.

But we did get some news, so maybe they're still planning on updating it :)

Seems like this would also signal a clearing of the decks for www.live.com.  Still no telling what "Rome" will bring, but moving the personalized page off live.com might (or might not) signal something there.

We have found that including My in the names of things gives you people a sense of ownership and pride!

(You guys are actually pretty easy to appease, thanks)

We are currently being re-directed because the page doesn't launch until mid-April. Once then, I think my.live.com will be the personalized live.com, while live.com will serve as the Live Search home, instead of search.live.com. Microsoft needed to do this to provide an equally (hopefully) simple and sleek alternative to Google.com (which, as we all know, is a very simple search engine with two buttons)...WHOA!!! I just performed a search and there have been some quite big UI changes [at search.msn.com]! Wait...what the heck. Now there are two Live Search sites? One at search.msn.com (the one with the new UI, which gets re-directed after typying in search.live.com), but then there's also the Live.com search-only site (www.live.com). But...it seems like the official Live Search (search engine only site; Google.com alternative) is going to be the one parked over at search.msn.com (which the updated header with the links at top has a link to "Live Search" with the search.live.com link, but then re-directs to search.msn.com). So...maybe they're going to have it moved to search.live.com, but it's currently parked at the msn.com domain, since the person who updated the link titled "Live Search" decided to put search.live.com instead of search.msn.com).

my.live.com did not redirect to live.com, just like it was shown below, see the URL at the address bar.

But then again, live.com still show my personalized page.

If you take a look at my.live.com/urlChange.aspx, and then point to the jewel, you'll see that they still link to Shopping etc.

Let's hope it's just the beginning of some updates, and not the beginning of the end.

http://my.live.com now works, along with the new search homepage.

Also,

start.com redirects to my.live.com

and its not live for me.
