New search.live.com homepage

glyph New elements of Live Search continue to roll out, the latest at http://search.live.com.  After an email notification this afternoon regarding a new page at my.live.com (which doesn’t seem to be live yet), where the personalized pages first started by Sanaz and Steve Rider at start.com (man that was a while ago!) have been,  the new home page appeared tonight (thanks Alber1690 for spotting it!).

While this new look is nice, we’re hoping that the rollout is far from done, as the transition from this page to the full on blue search pages is, well, jarring:

Not sure if this would pass the EXP test.

There’s a bit of a cryptic message on the Live Search blog (and an announcement of Live Search News, but we knew that), as well, looks like we’re not done yet.

Another change which cannot be seen in that screenshot is the browser titles of the pages which have changed from "Live Search: search term" to "search term - Live Search". Also, the "Search" button after the short form at the bottom of the page has changed to the new search icon picture style button.

@Chris the new search results UI in my screenshot is slightly different from the new Rome UI (the one in the screenshot in the post) and is only appearing at times. The screenshot I posted has the same "Live Search", "MSN" and "Windows Live" links in the top left as the new Live Search homepage featured in this post. It has also added your country name to the left of the "Options" and "Sign in" links in the top right, and redesigned the search form field at the top and bottom of each page.

Try adding &FORM=LIVSOP to the end of your search url, doesn't work everytime but chances are if you get an actual page instead of the 'not found' page at search.live.com/worldwide.aspx then you're getting the tweaked interface at least temporarily.

I dislike this look. The quick links to Hotmail and Spaces is gone, and bringing back the Flair at the right isn't cool.

I also think the search box should be directly in the center of the page. And the search icon doesn't seem to do well within the search box.
