Live Search comes to Facebook with custom search page

Mashable just spotted the new implementation of Live Search integrated into Facebook.  According to Mashable:

The implementation is fairly straightforward: in the search box on the top right of Facebook, which is also used for quick access to your friends’ profiles and intrasite search, there is now an option to “Search the Web,” which in turn triggers a query of Microsoft Live Search. Results then display within a custom interface designed for Facebook.

Windows Live Help Community is now gone too

As I was trying to browse to Windows Live Help Community today, what turned up was not what I expected - Microsoft had silently removed the service and the link now redirects to Windows Live Help. This is the latest Windows Live/Live Search services being dropped. And Like Windows Live for TV, Help Community never made it out of beta.

For those of you who don't remember, Microsoft released Windows Live Help Community back in December 2006, providing another channel for users to get help for their Windows Live services. However, throughout the lifetime of the service, only three services ever utilized Help Community - that is Windows Live Admin Center (Custom Domains back then), Windows Live Call for Free, and Help Community itself.

As noted back then on LiveSide, there seems to be too many help and feedback channels for Windows Live services, including:

Seems like Microsoft is finally getting their hands on to clean up the mess they've created with Windows Live and Live Search.

"Seems like Microsoft is finally getting their hands on to clean up the mess they've created with Windows Live and Live Search."

and they seem to be doing very fast. After they decided to move on (from Yahoo), there are a lot of things coming out (cashback, farecast etc etc) and changing (shutting down unused services). MS seems to have planned this a long time ago and now they are just executing it, at a very rapid pace, that is.

Good to see MS pushing the pedal on live services and strategy. Hope to see them act more aggressive and bring out more features.

This is what I feel they need to be doing, and should have done long ago. Better late than never though, right?

But it seems the things they're getting rid of is the services that have been quiet for a long time, which makes me wonder about Live Favorites...

Looks like the WL Help Community is still soldiering on as a news server; the ridiculously-named

news://microsoft.public.windows.live.customdomains.techsupport.com

was still operating a minute ago, with a solitary MVP (Steve Boots) doing a sterling job rescuing illiterate damsels in Hotmail or Messenger distress. With more than 12 posts a day, it is used much more than many other MS newsgroups, even if only a tiny minority of those posts have anything to do with Custom Domains - now the even more ridiculously-named Windows Live Admin Center.

@Khristopher , im curious about wl favs too...in my opinion wl favorites is still a good service, now wether it needs its own site is another question, i think it would be a better fit as part of live mesh..hopefully we'll see something like that done soon.
