Windows Live Photo Gallery gets new OEM partners, Sync integration, and more

Windows Live Photo Gallery from the Windows Live Essentials suite is getting some upgrades in the upcoming “Release Candidate” release too. Besides the many bug fixes (including the wlcomm.exe crash and 100% CPU usage bug ), we also found out from Brian Hall’s interview that Windows Live Sync (FolderShare) will come installed along with Windows Live Photo Gallery to sync your photo albums across multiple PCs, as long as you sign in with the same Windows Live ID on more than one computer: Perhaps more good news for Microsoft’s Windows Live push is that HP had recently signed up to include Windows

Mashed08 – Are You Going?

Last month we noted that the BBC and Microsoft will be running a UK Developer event taking place on June 21-22nd. Well, that time is upon us and I will be heading up to London tonight ready for it tomorrow as I will be co-hosting a “bean bag” session about Windows Live development with Luke Smith. Some of the things we will be covering are Delegated Authentication using Windows Live ID, accessing the contacts store using Windows Live Contacts API, some VE goodness, and some shameless plugging for LiveNet (which Luke and I wrote)

So who else is going? If you wanted to meet up at the event, feel free to drop me an email (scott@liveside.net), or a message on twitter. I will try and do a little blogging about the event while it’s going on, but depends on how much time I get.

Time for a rant, sorry not about Mashed08...

What is happening exactly with Hotmail? I haven't seen any new features in over a year (even after the recent update, if it can be called that) and it still looks like an unfinished product.

Badly sized and pointless adverts in the bottom left, no check mail button in classic mode, other pointless Live services shoved in my face at every opportunity, a badly coded page e.g. the unneeded horizontal scroll bar on every message on full version, limited to only 25 messages per page on classic, overzealous security features hindering my ability to view messages, STILL no calendar, STILL no chat, STILL adverts in my signature, STILL no rss, STILL the messenger client is forced upon my computer, STILL no complete functionality on other browsers and STILL no full pop access like Gmail

Isn't "if you can't beat what your competitors are doing, then at least match them" the first lesson of "how to run a business"? What have the Hotmail team been doing for the past year?

I don't know if you guys use a client like WLM or Windows Mail for your emailing but you might want to check back in with the web-based Hotmail, it's stagnant and becoming a larger and larger disappointment with every passing month.
