Windows Live Folders Part III

Just a few more points on Windows Live Folders:

  • The Windows Live Folders homepage is now offline.
  • The beta has not started and there is no signup page yet either. Subscribe to our RSS feed if you want to know when this is available.
  • The 500MB storage being offered during the beta is unlikely to be the final figure. Why tip the game away to competitors during the beta phase before it launches?

Also, I admit that I used the codename "Live Drive" as opposed to the correct name "Sky Drive" as the former has a well defined (if wrong) concept outside of Microsoft. We tried before to correct this error but it didn't work. Blame Ray Ozzie for that one :)

Meh, should still be called Live Drive.  Using Homail for storage/using Live Folders for storage seems to be the same to me- online storage.  It should just be Live Drive: simple, and catchy.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yesterday, I signed in and up/downed a file, w/o any signup needed.

It only worked with signing in my live ID before visiting the folders website, though.

Hi,

Sorry about the trackbacks, I didn't tell it to do that, it just did it automatically. Feel free to remove them.

And thanks for the update about WLFolders, been waiting for some info for ages. Now all we need is WLCalendars. :)

Cheers,

Decipher.

Hey Decipher,

That's absolutely fine with the trackbacks.  We like when those show up!  As for Calendar, well I think we've all been waiting for that one. :)

The much-vaunted storage-in-the-cloud service from Microsoft's Windows Live is soon to see the light

Los Havros,

You are neither right or wrong - but of course that's your opinion. I hapoen to agree - Windows Live Drive is a great name.

Wow this sound really exciting.. can't wait to see it in action.

Hopefully they will have a small client program for easy uploading.. Kind of like Flickr for photos.

Oh would be nice if they also had a way to sync up a folder on your desktop.

I CANT WAIT!

Zlinko,

Do you not think that they already have the perfect client in Windows Explorer?

yeah...they've used Windows Explorer before...extending it with a namespace that ads like "MSN Groups" or "MSN Storage" back in the day.

It didn't always work so well...and the paltry 3MB storage limits easily curtailed usage.  ;-)

Lookin forward to this going public as well... :)
