LiveSide Now With Live ID Goodness

What's going on here?! Two sign in buttons?

Don't fret, you're not seeing a bug, it's the new Windows Live ID SSO addon I've built for Community Server.

You can now choose how to sign into Liveside.net, via the normal sign in page or via Windows Live ID. This is a slightly hacked way of doing it, which means you're actually associating your Liveside account with a Live ID, but once that's done, you'll be able to sign in via Windows Live ID instead.

If you haven't associated you'll be greeted with this (which explains it better):

Have a play, it should be mostly intuitive.

Notes:

1. Signing in with your Live ID at any site except LiveSide will not log you into LiveSide. Only authenticated sites can do that unfortunately, and that costs money :(

2. Signing out of Live ID anywhere will then sign you out of LiveSide. So if like us you have multiple Live IDs, this will happen quite often. You probably don't want to associate your LiveSide account with Live ID then until they allow you to link multiple Live IDs together. Of course if you don't sign out, you'll be fine.

3. There is no option to disassociate yet. If you want to change your associated Live ID, sign in via LiveSide (the link is in the top right hand corner) but this time use the new Live ID.

Yup there's an issue with the service that Nick is currently fixing. It'll be back soon :)

Cool, I've never signed in to LiveSide before but now that it has integration with my Windows Live I decided to give it a try!  Great blog by the way.

What exactly is the point of it?

Chris wrote re: LiveSide Now With Live ID Goodness

Insectionx - rather than having to remember your Liveside username and password you can just use your WL ID. If more sites enable this it gets more powerful, meaning you lose X username/password combinations for Live ID.

I somehow managed to find a bug... what I did:

I was signed in using a "regular" LiveSide-account, not via WL ID. I clicked the Sign in-link (top right) and got redirected to the login.live.com-domain, lc=1043 (Dutch).

Because I wanted to try InfoCard I set my lc to 1033 and clicked "Sign in with another account". I selected the "Information Card"-option from the dropdown, but remembered I don't have my card here, so switched back to Password.

I signed in, got redirected back to LiveSide, presenting me with this error: cid-58bff6ee28af4d80.skydrive.live.com/.../liveside%20live%20id%20error.PNG

Looks like the context was lost when you where doing this.  The context, is a string value telling the system where to redirect you back to. Will add some code to fix this in Version 1.2.

Thanks for the bug Yes

Mm, I think the Windows Live ID-team should be notified too, can you do this? You can probably explain it better ;)
