Live ID sneaks in Info Card right under our noses

We've been telling you about Info Card for quite a while, but in all the excitement (and a few bugs to iron out) surrounding the new Live ID associations with LiveSide Community Server log in, it took us a minute to notice that Info Cards are live and working, and right here on LiveSide!

A note on the naming (hey it's Microsoft, you knew this was coming, right?): The current name for the cards seems to be "Information Card", formerly Info Card, and while we and others noticed a name change to "CardSpace", that seems to be the name of the Information Card manager.

WindowClipping (7)

Here's how to get started with Information Cards:

Start by clicking on the Windows Live ID "Sign In" at the top right of our home page (you may have to sign out first)

  1. First you need to set up an Information Card.  In the text above "Sign in with:...", click on "Information Card"
  2. Then click on "Sign In":

WindowClipping (8)

  3.  Click on the Live ID you want to build an Information Card for, verify your password, and customize your Info Card:

infocard

  4.  For right now, the only personal information you can store is a name and a picture.  That will change, however, as the help file shows:

infocardhelp

  5.  Next, to sign in with the Information Card, choose it from the drop down box in your Live ID sign in:

infocardsignin

And that's it!  Not very useful yet, but fun!

We'll have more of course as the Information Cards become more functional, but for now, about the only place you can get one is on LiveSide! (and heck, we almost didn't notice ourselves!)

Update: Long tells me this isn't fully working for him (he can create a card (in Windows IE7), but can't sign in with it, so it may be US only (??)

Ok.  just created my info card.  Seemed to be no problem. So I wonder when and what is the next phase?

I had to try a few times but finally got it working. Bring on the calendar!

Very, Very Cool!

I am glad to see InfoCard starting to appear in the wild.    You can associate an OpenID with your infocard at signon.com now so you can pretty much be covered for many of the standards!

I agree...I sooo want Live Calendar.  One caveat, they need to give us Mobile Calendar sync to the windows Mobile client.

I created mine no problem. Very cool stuff. Can't wait to see it on all kinds of sites. Hopefully that happens anyway.

Actually, I just tried it an was able to enter many more fields and saw a lot of card manipulation options:

In Morning, first time i tried to login , I got an error , that time only I came to know its something to do with Infocard.

"An unhandled exception ('System.ExecutionEngineException') occurred in Infocard.exe [3256]"

So how to rectify it?

Hmm, it's not available in my language (Dutch, lc 1043) yet, it is in English (lc 1033)... it was on live-int. Strange o_O

Actually, Info Card is on more than just LiveSide, it's now on every Live service login page: i162.photobucket.com/.../infocardonmail.jpg

It isn't limited to US only. I'm residing in Denmark, with Denmark in the location settings.

I need to inform that i am unable to log out.

I press Sign-out. Live signs me out and forwards me to my regional msn.com page. I go back to liveside.net, but am still logged in.

Hmm we were having some problems with this earlier, a CS issue.  It is working here.  Cloud02 and otto888 I removed your Live ID association, can you try and re-associate and see if it's still happening?

Appreciate everyone helping to test this out :)

Thanks, it worked!

works now :)

Cloud02 wrote re: Live ID sneaks in Info Card right under our noses

I tried again now and it doesnt work again.

Apparently it seemed to be working if you have the custom logout screen, rather than being forwarded to the regional home page.
