Windows Live Wave 3 services launch today (Updated)

As we hinted at yesterday , today marks the update for most of the Windows Live services to Wave 3. This release (Codename Peloton for those keeping track), is expected to mainly take place from 4pm PST onwards, and will include the release of new services such as Windows Live Groups, Photos and Profile as well as the significantly updated Home and Mobile offerings. No this doesn't include the release of Windows Live Essentials, the desktop applications. Note, Hotmail and Calendar are both on a different release schedule, and as such will remain at their Wave 3 Milestone 2 builds until a later

Windows Live Wave 2 launches tomorrow night

In case you forgot that Windows Live Wave 2 is launching tomorrow night (for GMT through to PST - Wednesday morning for those ahead of GMT), Microsoft have put up a handy countdown clock to remind you.

From a client/application perspective, this will include Messenger, Mail (finally!), Writer, Photo Gallery and Family Safety, along with the online Skydrive service too - ie everything on the main beta page. Lets hope the installer works properly this time, though given the somewhat pre-emptive knowledgebase article, it looks like this may not be the case. (You may want to keep that link somewhere handy for your friends and family.)

After succumbing to the "viral" marketing, we're turning back to the scheduled show for tonight. Lots still to post before tomorrow! ;)

what about the sites that they have forgotten? i.e Favourites, Live.com, toolbar

I still don't get why on the V2 they have forgotten some of the links to these sites too totally inconsistant!

All I can say is 'wow'. They've finally put some effort into making a decent site that promotes Windows Live to the full. I guess they're fully trying to separate 'Live' and 'Windows Live' now, which I don't like as all of the main services are on live.com subdomains, but at least we now have a separate decent site where you can find out about the various services. Hurray for Wave 2.

Well I don't think they have made a "decent" site that promotes Windows Live actually, for one reason: www.windowslive.com has the old Wave 1 (flair) design!!! Why? I don't understand. Why didn't they make the new site with the Wave 2 design? Wouldn't that have made sense?? Also, the final Windows Live Installer also bugs me because that is the old Wave 1 design! God, what is wrong with Microsoft? Are they all dumbasses or something!?!?!

(sorry, I just DESPISE inconsistencies!! lol)

Other than the design of the new Windows Live website, the content is excellent and with a new Wave 2 design, it would be more than decent ;)

The same with the installer. With a new Wave 2 design, it would be perfect. Mine installed the programs with almost no problems, I like the way it installs lets you know what is going on.

2 days ago (before the release of WLW2) I had a Windows Update on my Vista Home Premium which was optional, and it had all the products in that wave. Could it be that they were released before the countdown to Vista users by Windows update?
