Wave 3 Is Coming: Mail with Windows Live Calendar synch

No, not the web version, that’s Windows Live Hotmail. We spoke about that one already. This time it’s about the desktop client, Windows Live Mail. That one is going to get a new version in Wave 3 too.

We noticed something that will make many of you very very happy…

No, your eyes are not deceiving you (though the picture is a little small!) - Calendar synchronisation will be integrated into Windows Live Mail!

(note this is the XP version, not the Vista version - hence the blue titlebar) Update: Here's what the Vista version looks like (not calendar view):

Windows Live Mail

This looks like a real cool piece of software. The interface is great.

This makes me go "Ohhh..." LOL I love WLM, and this upcoming update looks like a great one. I use Google Calendar but will check to the calendar that comes with WLM once it comes out.

I hope it has more functionality than the online version!

GCal craps all over it *at the moment*

Neat, I hope it comes out soon.  Where did you get the picture?

I <3 WLM, I've used Outlook, Evolution, various webmails, etc but I always find myself coming back to WLM.

As awesome as calendars being added is (Does that mean Windows Calendar is being killed off like Windows Mail was?) I'm more excited about GUI changes -- so far from this tiny image it looks nice.

tekfan, this would be able to sync with your Google Calendar. :D

This is a ridiculous user interface compared to the Wave 3 Messenger! What is wrong with these people!? I realise these are both M2 builds & are not final but shouldn't the M2 versions of Mail & Messenger both have a very similar (or tbh the same) user interface! I thought everyone said MS were going to focus on consistency with these products!? :S It seems like you can't even change the Windows Live header on this new version of Mail to have pictures, etc.

Totally agree, calum-r-

I really up set about WLMail Header, why not Wave 3 header for it too ? like WLMessenger M2 build ?

Microsoft, please keep your promise, and do it for Photo Gallery, Writer too...

PS: Everybody can go to: www.livesino.net to see Vista version of this build, nothing change, i mean the Header

@DorianGraph: Yeah? Nice! I think I read here on LiveSide that in order to access and sync Windows Live Calendar Beta with the calendar in Windows Live Mail, I would have to sign in with a Windows Live ID. I use my Gmail address to sign in to Windows Live Mail and have access to my contacts list.

I like that I'll be able to have a copy of the calendar in the cloud with Google Calendar and a copy offline in WLM.

I also like the new UI. One thing I'm hoping to soon get a peek at is how the Mail section of WLM mail looks like. One thing that I never liked about it is the HUGE headers in the Reading Pane and whenever you'd open a message in a new window.

What happens to Windows Calendar ??

@tekfan, well, I'm assuming it has the basic 'subscribe to a remote .cal' which basically every browser app, including Windows Calendar, has had in the last 5 years.

@tekfan:

When you are talking about the headers in the reading pane, do you mean where it has the contacts display picture, etc? Because I love the fact that it shows the display picture of the person who has emailed you! I just wish more sites would somehow get display pictures there, e.g. when I receive emails from Neowin or Windows Live Alerts from LiveSide ;)

Hurrah! Been a long time coming as most of us requested this way back when it was Windows Live Desktop and still in beta!

@DorianGraph: I see :-) Yeah, lets hope it does have  a (at least) basic mode to subscribe to calendars. One thing I don't like about MS though is that it tends to remove features from its programs once it merges two of them, see OE and WLM. I don't know if the new WLM will have features from WinCal and WLCalendar though.

@calum-r-: Yep. The part where the sender's picture, email address, date/time, attachment list, [a lot of empty space] is located. I like the picture, it's a nice touch, though I have just the default Windows Live Spaces icon, but the rest that pane it just too big.

The header in the Reading pane is okay, but it becomes too big ('uge!) when you double click on an individual message and it open in a new, not maximized window or when you have the Reading pane below the message list (as in OE) w/out the Header turned off.

I like this WAY better then the WLM screenshots I've seen. It just seems to maintain a slick, cool, stylish look. The only thing I'd like to see put in is the Wave 3 header

Thanks for the update with the Vista screenshot. Has anybody else noticed that they seem to have taken the "Messenger" link out which was down near "Mail", "Feeds", etc. Does anybody know why?
