Hotmail spotted in the wild

Just as we suspected, once we posted on “where’s Hotmail”, we started getting reports of sightings.  Thanks to LiveSide reader Graeme (who is getting his website at www.bitsticks.com running, should be up soon) we have some screenshots:

After Login - Before Inbox

Flower Theme I Think

And Graeme was able to confirm one interesting little bit of news: Apparently Windows Live OneCare has replaced TrendMicro as the virus scanner for Hotmail:

hotmailonecare

In the old version, a Trend Micro logo would appear on mail, so it looks like the change has indeed taken place.

Also Frederick at Read Write Web has a nice little article up, unlike us he’s been able to play with the new Hotmail.  As soon as we get our hands on it we’ll have more.

I noticed the new Hotmail came first on my most recently opened account. This would suggest to me that newer accounts are set up to have the new look quicker and perhaps the problems are going to occur with older accounts as they are transferred. My new account works great, is indeed quicker as promised but does not look as nice as the old Hotmail. It reminds me of one of the early Windows Live (Hot)mail betas.

@Attack Blogger - If you remember, when was this account opened?

I just made an account, so now I have 3... each about a year apart, if I remember correctly.  I tried making a UK account, but it wouldn't let me.

if you go to account.live.com it tells you when the account was created

"Overall, we really liked this new version of Hotmail. It does not (yet?) include a lot of new functionality, but it does give Microsoft a very well designed scaffold to use once it decides to add more functions in the future."

What's wrong with the existing scaffold? :-\

It's got to be a mix of accounts that are getting the limited update.  I've had my hotmail since at least 2000 I'm sure, if not a bit before.

@natenovs  agreed about the "themes", they're really not all that attractive.  If a bit girly. (nothing against the feminine of our species).  Wonder if this will lead into us being able to upload our own graphics for backgrounds/themes? Hmmmm....

I'm happy that Wave3 works on Safari for the most part, since I use both OSX and Windows all the time these days.  At least now I can get to my Mail and Calendar using the campus computers.

I have about 13 Windows Live Hotmail screenshots:

A review is coming soon. Please link back if there will be an article on it.

I have a speculation - I think there are people that haven't logged into Hotmail for a few years, and they're logging into the current wave, not the wave 3 version, and making analysis based on that.  I've seen a couple of reviews that seem to be doing that... just think it's funny.

A friend of mine actually has this. I saw it on her Hotmail.

It was on co102 i think. The same as the brazilian guy, but then in Dutch.

Her account is probably pretty old, at least 3 years.

My account is from 1998 and I STILL haven't gotten the "new" Wave 3 Hotmail.  My account is on bay 117.

@Pytt - That link doesn't work for me.  It keeps bringing me back to Bay 117, which still doesn't have Wave 3.... :(

Pytt's link should work fine if you sign out of live id as the page is not sign in protected.

i noticed that it will redirect to my (current) hotmail bay if sign in (which is a 107 but maybe a different datacenter)

It's really odd that the staff at Hotmail are really quiet especially with people complaining about the new wave.

Plus it's interesting that not many people have been updated even though we are on the 3rd day (Fri/Mon and tues).....

i think we all have to be patient and be happy that microsoft didn't update all accounts at once. it seems there are problems with some accounts. what would have happened if they where all updated simultaniously... remember the start/update of mobile me... ;-)

Interesting thing I've noticed on most of the screenshots posted thus far.  They're still retaining the text-link header in the old Wave 2 fashion.   I've not seen any with the full Wave 3 changes yet.
