Groups options in Messenger Wave 3 activated – featuring Groups Calendar!

Today it seems like Microsoft have flipped the switch and turned on the menu for Windows Live Groups in the new Messenger wave 3 beta! When you right-click on a Groups’ name the following option menu will pop-up:

group menu

Previously these options were greyed-out, but today they’re being activated and directs you to the appropriate websites associated with the Group (we’ll talk about Groups more in-depth later). Unfortunately most of these links currently directs you to the 404 “We can’t find that page” page you’d get when you visit any of the beta urls we’ve found previously…with the exception of one – Groups Calendar! Smile

Clicking on Calendar in that menu will direct you to your Groups’ Calendar, as shown below. You can even set the theme for your Group here:

Group Calendar

Although it doesn’t seem like it’s connecting yet (notice the “Group name goes here” text on the top), at least it gives us an idea of what’s to come! Oh and did we mention the URL it directs you to also gave away the address of the new dogfood Calendar server? Take a look - it works for your own personal Calendar too! Although it seems to be only 11 days newer than the public release, and the only difference I can see are the “correct” links in the wave 3 header, but hey - you’ll never know when they will give us the next surprise! Wink

This explains the outage yesterday...myself and a couple of friends were not able to sign in for hours. Anyone else experience this?

Darn it!

I can't even sign into Messenger now!

(and for some reason, I don't see my other comment that said that it's still redirecting the the 404 error for me)

I had issues with it yesterday (Saturday) wouldnt allow me to sign in and when it did it kept kicking me off, I tried in the morning then again in the evening and had the same issue so I gave up. I don't use msn that often so its annoying when I cannot sign in!

No problems here signing in from Australia, and I do see people online on my contact list, so I guess it's not a worldwide outage.

Did anyone notice that the Groups Calendar has no ads? =) Looks much cleaner that way.....

Demmit!!!

I am getting Messenger error 81000451.  I've looked it up and others are having it also, after creating a group, then leaving it breaks your account.  After that, there is no solution, I've tried deleting all Messenger files in the AppData and stuff, as it'll rebuild those.  Only solution so far is to downgrade or use the Web Messenger.

Anyone care to help me?

@damaster:

It's only a beta, so I expect the ads to be put in it eventually :(

The new Wave 3 looks horrible with the ads but beautiful without them! They need to think of a better way to incorporate the ads.

Also does anybody know if they plan on allowing us to choose different colours for our Wave 3 headers, rather than the horrible limited choice of patterns they hav given us? I mean colours so it still ha the design & pattern of the default flair blue, but just red, orange, green, purple, etc.

Finally, I also couldn't sign into Windows Live Messenger all of Saturday until I tried it again at about 21:30 British time and it worked. It happened with my "@live.co.uk" accounts, but not my "@hotmail.com" account.
