Windows Live Account gets Wave 3 update - Services updates start

Microsoft has just switched on the new Windows Live Account, bringing with it the first of many expected services upgrades this week to Wave 3. Unfortunately the update is an anti-climax, as none of the good stuff (like Home or Profile options) are enabled until those services have rolled out.

Of course one issue with these large services being rollled out is the potential for downtime, so don't be surprised if you see a few glitches!

Update: The signup process for Windows Live IDs has now also migrated over to Wave 3. Interestingly, the default page uses non-Windows Live email addresses as the default. So if you have a gmail or yahoo account, you can still use Messenger, Groups, Profile etc, just not Hotmail.

I think it's interesting that at the top Hotmail is referred to simply as "Mail", are they adopting this name (again)? Or is it simply to save space?

Profile details has the silly http://<gibberish_string_same_as_skydrive>.profile.live.com/details format. Seriously, where is the customization option, like what we get in Spaces?

It feels much simpler for some reason. I don't know if they took content away, or changed the layout. It looks the same, but I'm not sure. Either way it's an improvement, as things are easier to find there now.

@ranpha

It's the same way with skydrive too. It's about time that they changed that, so that it's easier to tell people in REAL LIFE how to get to your content.

Guys, profile does have a proper web address "eg chris-liveside.profile.live.com" you just need to wait for it to roll out :)

It looks like those messy URLs are a mechanism to track where people are coming from and going to, persumably to see if those links would be better as something else.

almost as my web source said December 1st we see rollouts :) (but did not say what or they did not know)

profile.live.com is not 'propagated' and with same error code from OpenDNS (well 18hrs ago same were my website's DNS ;) ) so i wonder if we have a matter of hours :)

home.live.com/options/ *that is the 'windows live options' section of account goes if clicked* - the redirecting is not working anymore so seems they pulled the file (or renamed it) to stop access to this as they not 100% ready

i wait in earnst :P

The links in "What's New" section in Messenger Wave 3 now takes you to the profile.live.com address instead of the old Spaces profile. Still page not found though...

The private beta addresses (ie. home-beta.live.com) now redirects to Windows Live Home (instead of the error page) Looks like the private beta has been ended as it gets rolled out.

Things are getting prepared for the launch. Exciting stuff =)

Wow, as an MSN Premium member, I actually got access to the new WL Account site :)

But all the links at the top are either broken or lead to old services :(
