Life Without Walls, Windows Live Timeline Revealed

As some of you may know, I attended “Life Without Walls” here in the Netherlands today.

The Event was all about Windows Live Wave 3: Darren Huston kicked off with Vision on Life without Walls (PC, Mobile and Online - Windows + Windows Live = full Windows experience), followed by Joost Nienhuis who spoke about the digital behavior of consumers which led to the Windows Live demonstration given by Arnout Hemel. Here we saw how the new Windows Live will make live easier for the various consumer groups, mainly the Social web users (stay in touch with friends easier and in a more personal way), and the Functional web users (how to organize my online life better).

Most of this we already informed you about. We informed you about the services which were released in the last two days, and we also informed you about the applications already, looks to the right in the Sidebar, still there was new information too.

Some questions that might have crossed your mind are:

- When will the (RC) apps (Windows Live Essentials) be released?
The answer to that is they will be released next week at http://download.live.com/
- When will Hotmail, Calendar and People get their final update/release?
Answer: February 2009. Once this is done all Windows Live web pages will have the same header (menu):

WLheader

Of course we’ll update you next week when the apps are available for download too. Stay tuned!

This is kind of super and all.  The Live suite has actually become somewhat useful over the past year or so - enough for me to use the apps on my PC and phone.

Two things we really need to see worked on (excluding space work, which seems to be ongoing, and spaces spam, which they claim is ongoing) are improvements to the Live Mobile client (eg put messenger back in, calendar sync, etc) and the live search client (why can't I copy and paste URLs and why can't I sign in to access my collections, saved directions/trips, etc?).

But it's nice to see a lot of maturity coming out of the suite.

Do you know if the RC version of WL Mail will have support for calendar tasks has the web version does?

Any updates on my.live.com or is that still being neglected?

It is really a pity they can't have the apps ready for the year end holidays. I look forward to the finished (wave 3) apps so that I can introduce my family to them.

I think they should merge Windows Live Personalised Experience with Windows Live Home (they just about have with the addition of Feeds in Windows Live Home) but it is ridiculous having 3 personalised hogmepages and they could easily integrate all of the Windows Live Personalised Experience features into Windows Live Home and then get rid of that and the redundant MyMSN.

I too think that the MyMSN is redundant with the Windows Live Personalized Experience. Isn't MSN supposed to be about programmed content and Windows Live about personalized experience?

I wonder what's in plan for my.live.com. While Windows Live Home does have the ability to show pre-provided feeds, it doesn't yet have the option to integrate custom feeds. I still use my.live.com as my custom feed aggregator.

Oh, you're a tease, RebelSean :P you always are! :D

Have they really changed it that much since the last screenshots we've seen? Added any new features?

Or do you just mean you can't wait to unveil it to everyone who hasn't tried the wave 3 beta? :D lol.

I hope error 81000451 is fixed.

It's been preventing me from signing into Messenger 9 the entire time (made a test group within Messenger after seeing this: www.liveside.net/.../groups-options-in-messenger-wave-3-activated-now-includes-groups-calendar.aspx, and i didn't work, I tried leaving the group and that f***ed it up, can't sign in anymore).

Does that timeline of apps next week include the much-anticipated Windows Live Sync?
