Changes to the Spaces header

Did you miss your Windows Live Navigation menu on Windows Live Spaces? Not anymore, the Team just posted the following:

Today we're making a change to Spaces that is a direct result of the feedback you gave us here on the Windows Live team blog, on the Space Craft blog, and via the feedback form. We heard that earlier changes we’d made to the Spaces header actually caused you confusion and made it more difficult to navigate to other Windows Live services after viewing someone’s personal space.

As a result, we’re beginning to update Spaces today to add the standard Windows Live navigation links across the top, so you have a consistent way to navigate to and from all the Windows Live services.

Here’s the old header in Spaces:

Old Spaces header

And here’s the new one:

New Spaces header

If you don’t see the new header yet, wait a day or so – we’ve got a lot of users to roll this out to, and it generally takes a little while to get updates out to everyone.

I just checked on mine and it has already been updated for me, how about yours? Go, check out your space now.

Now if they'd just make the wave 3 themes available to us, we'd be on our way to a decent dovetail with the rest of Windows Live.

gregsedwards, that would make for a more seamless experience. I wish there was an option to disable the Wave 3 "menu" header altogether...especially if you are running Windows Toolbar.

Finally! This has been annoying me ever since I first saw screenshots of the new Spaces...

I like the new Spaces Header. Since we are discussing Headers there has been another thing that has been bothering me and that is where is the link to maps.live.com in the header? When I need a map I normally go to Google’s home page which has a link to maps.google.com right in the header (Second link). I have started to use Windows Live a little more and I like all the new integration that is being done with having a standard header going across the top. The only problem is, I cannot find the link to maps.live.com. I see Home|Profile|People|Mail|Photos|More|MSN but no Maps! Even on the More and MSN pull downs there is no links to Maps. Could someone give me directions (do you like the pun) were to click to be sent to the Maps home page?

It has to be staring me in the face but I just cannot see it.

I just went to maps.live.com and they are nice enough to give a link over to Hotmail in their header.

@geweiss:

That's because Maps is not a Windows Live service.

It is a Live Search service and you can access it by clicking on Live Search in the Windows Live header :)

It wouldn't make sense for them to include just "Maps" along with Live Search and the rest of the Windows Live services in the Windows Live header.

@geweiss, I'm not sure they plan on including it in a text menu.  If you play with the search box (currently Windows Live Home only) you will notice it allows you to search the Web or People.  I think they are going to add "Business, category, and/or location" as another search type.  Also, Windows Live Maps is integrated with Live People.

@CalumJR, part of the confusion is the "Live" label.  Maybe thats what "Kumo" is all about.
