Some more on Bing.com – that confusing trademark will soon become Blinko

Microsoft acquired Bing.com in March, and has a network all set up:

bingnetwork

but as we reported last week, there’s that pesky little US Patent and Trademark Office to get around.  The problem is with Bing Mobile, which is just too confusing for the USPTO.  But apparently that will soon be cleared up, too, as evidenced by a note on the Bing mobile site:

bing will become blinko soon!

And the ever-watchful MG Siegler over at TechCrunch may have even spotted the logo in a favicon:

bingfavicon

While we freely admit we have grown to like Kumo, the evidence for Bing keeps mounting, and people even seem to like it, according to a poll Emil Protalinski is running over at Ars Technica.  Who knew?

this is getting fun - its all tangled like a SPIDER (lol @ Kumo) web.

Bing.im (that the Bing Mobile site in screenshots) saying it moving/branding 'soon' to Blinko.com but going to there (blinko.com) this redirects to another company http://www.peoplesound.com/ (a form of social network.

Seems either PeopleSound giving there Blinko.com rights to Bing Mobile (Bing.im) or Peoplesound somewhere acquired Bing.im.

Either way there has to be a Microsoft link as Microsoft (rumored) willingness for Bing to be the new name for Live Search but bing.im will have little use considering it a Isle of Man domain (island that UK constitutionally responsible for (similar to Channel Islands) and is in the Irish Sea for those not aware of the coastlines of UK and Ireland :D)

Only use i could see bing.im for is if they changed Windows Live Messenger to say Bing Messenger available at bing.im (lol)

Lol. I guess the saying holds true...

"If Microsoft want it, they bribe for it."

"If Microsoft want it, they bribe for it." - true or acquire it

Microsoft pay PeopleSound and Bing.im (never lol)

Unless Microsoft own PeopleSound or gave them the domain money and legal costs on behalf of Bing.im.

but they seem to have found a way of dodgy underworld style around the Trademark and Patent Office (much like they avoid the EU hehe)

When I first heard Kumo, I liked it a lot.  When I heard Bing, I wasn't that thrilled.  But it is growing on me, and if the marketing campaigns do something smart with the name, it could work just fine.

I can't wait to get my hands on the new search so that I can see if the $100M investment in rebranding is warranted.  I expect it is.

More evidence that the name will be Bing....

In our corporate installation of SharePoint 2007, we've federated with Live Search and as of yesterday we started to see the Bing logo in the search results. Here's a screen shot:
