Windows Live Expo joins the Windows Live deadpool

Windows Live Expo, the Craigslist wannabe classified ads product, is heading for what TechCrunch likes to call the “deadpool”. This follows closely on the heels of announcements shutting down Live Search Books and Academic. A notice on the site appeared today, informing users that the site will cease operations on July 31:

Some aspects of Expo have already been closed down, and users are no longer able to:

Create a new account
Post a new listing
Extend a listing
Upgrade a listing to a premium listing

All items currently on Expo will remain until they expire (or until July 31, whichever comes first).

Expo began on February 28, 2006 with a Hello World post on their blog (which hasn’t been updated since last September).

Expo adds new features, improves performance

Windows Live Expo, the free "social classified" ads offering, has just added some new features, including the ability to send an alert to selected members of your Messenger buddies list when you post something for sale on Expo.

In addition, the site has been optimized to show local listings on the home page, and improvements have been made around Anti-fraud and performance.

Expo launches UK Beta

After its US release a while back, Expo has finally launched in limited beta at http://expo.live.co.uk/ today. Windows Live Expo is Microsoft's online classifieds service, providing users with a free way to advertise items they want to sell, or services they are offering.

Key features include:

Keep your dealings within a trusted network like your MSN Messenger Buddies, friends or co-workers; or open them up to anyone
Find listings just in your area, nationwide or anywhere in between
Add your listings to your MSN Space with one easy click
Get detailed maps and directions for things like garage sales, homes for sale or concerts
Communicate with people via MSN Messenger right from Expo’s site

Windows Live Expo has just announced a new update to the service, including integrated payment via PayPal, job listings via CareerBuilder, featured ads by AdMission - initially in the real estate and autos sections, better search, and tighter Messenger integration - showing you "all the things your friends and family are listing - right within the Messenger client!."
