MSN UK Full Page Live Earth Ad

Just opened up the MSN UK Portal (http://uk.msn.com/) and noticed that there's now a Full Page Live Earth Interactive Flash Ad, which can be seen by clicking your mouse in the top right hand corner. I'm not sure if this is the first time it's ran but I didn't see it before any of the Live Earth Concerts, only after.

On another note I noticed that the Main MSN Portal (http://www.msn.com/defaultO.aspx) once again has the interactive Microsoft Office 2007 advertisement.

Did you miss any of the action over the weekend from Live Earth? Don't want to watch the whole performance to see just one artist? Well now you can choose what artist's set list you want to watch, when you want to watch them.

Just head on over to http://liveearth.msn.com/artists and you can select artist by venue, or just scroll down the list to the artist of your choice:

Live Earth concerts this weekend

Just in case you missed it, the Live Earth concerts take place this weekend to highlight climate change. If you didn't manage to get a ticket, you can watch the concerts online at http://liveearth.msn.com/ both during the performances and afterwards. The website also has some useful information if you want to go "green", including unusual tips such as using bamboo for your wooden floors.

Let us know if you're heading to any of the events - I'm going to the London concert so here's hoping it doesn't rain!

Win a Windows Live Road Trip

In conjunction with Live Earth, the concert series being hosted by MSN, Windows Live Spaces is holding a contest where you can win a road trip across America to see the concert on July 7 (07/07/07) at Giants Stadium in New York (well New Jersey really).

Here's some particulars (quoted from the Spaces blog):

Live Earth lineup announced: Tickets available soon

Back in February, we reported on the upcoming Live Earth concert series, sponsored by MSN, to combat global warming. Today, they have announced the lineup of artists who will be performing as well as the venues, spread throughout the world. The concerts are set to take place on July 7th. Here is where the concerts will be held:

US: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
UK: Wembley Stadium, London
Brazil: Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro
South Africa: The Cradle of Human Kind, Maropeng near Johannesburg
Japan: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo
China: (location TBD), Shanghai
Australia: Aussie Stadium , Moore Park, Sydney

So far, only the lineups for the shows at Giants Stadium and Wembley Stadium have been announced. Artists include Dave Matthews Band, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer, Kanye West, Ludacris, The Police, Roger Waters, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, James Blunt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. The full lineup for those two shows, as well as information for purchasing tickets can be found here.

Tickets will go on sale for the London show starting on April 13th and the US show on April 16th.

Live Earth - Save Our Selves concert series announced

As we said in posts earlier this week, MSN has secured the online distribution rights to a new global concert event: Live Earth. From the press release:

SOS is designed to trigger a global movement to combat our climate crisis. It will reach people in every corner of the planet through television, film, radio, the Internet and Live Earth, a 24-hour concert on 7/7/07 across all 7 continents that will bring together more than 100 of the world's top musical acts. Live Earth alone will engage an audience of more than 2 billion people through concert attendance and broadcasts. MSN has partnered with SOS to use its reach to make the Live Earth concerts available across the globe. The Live Earth audience, and the proceeds from the concerts, will create the foundation for a new, multi-year global effort to combat the climate crisis led by The Alliance for Climate Protection and its Chair, Vice President Al Gore. SOS was founded by Kevin Wall, who won an Emmy as Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8.

Read more for the 25 major artists who have already confirmed. With MSN as the exclusive online portal, this is both a massive gamble and a huge opportunity. Get it right and MSN could see some tremedous growth over the next 5 months. Lets not think what happens if they get it wrong.

Get ready for "Save Our Selves" global concert series

As a followup to yesterday's post "MSN to host Live Earth concert series" it appears as though the series of concerts is going by the name SOS - Save Our Selves. While the url http://sos.msn.com/ looks to be where the music is actually heading, the placeholder homepage for the global event is already live at http://saveourselves.com/.

Save Our Selves (SOS) aims to connect people around the world with seven concerts on seven continents on 7/7/07, to create a global community with a single environmental vision and purpose.

From the various pages on the site, you can see that Live Earth Event, LLC is running the shows, though no mention is made of MSN yet.

MSN to host Live Earth concert series

At the end of last week there was some chatter from the FT about Al Gore announcing on Saturday a series of concerts to promote climate change. While even the likes of the FT sometimes get their dates wrong, an announcement from Microsoft VP Joanne Bradford, former Vice President Al Gore and Kevin Wall, CEO of Control Room is expected towards the end of this week.

With seven concerts taking place on 7/7/2007, Live Earth looks set to rival Live8, an event that saw AOL gain much praise for broadcasting all the concerts in their entirity. This time around MSN will be the online destination, and global warming the topic under the spotlight.

Control Room and MSN currently have a collaboration agreement to distribute and promote live music events, which already include John Legend, Rod Stewart and Snoop Dog.
