Microsoft to purchase MusiWave for $50 Million

Microsoft is apparently following up on plans to purchase French mobile music company MusiWave from OpenWave, for $46 million in cash and assuming another $4 million in debt, according to an AP story on Yahoo Finance, via David Hunter at Microsoft Tracker.

Microsoft announced its intentions on Monday, but details of the acquisition were not announced until today. MusiWave provides technology, marketing, and content for mobile operators and music companies.

In a press release issued this morning, Microsoft announced its plans to acquire French mobile music company Musiwave. The company is a leading provider of mobile music entertainment services to operators and media companies. According to the press release:

The acquisition would bring Musiwave's relationships with music labels, device makers and mobile operators that deliver digital entertainment to consumers, together with Microsoft's Connected Entertainment technologies and services, including Windows Mobile, Zune, MSN and Windows Live. Should the transaction proceed, Musiwave would continue to operate out of its current headquarters in Paris.

MusiWave provides the technology behind the new T Mobile Music Jukebox, and provides technology, marketing, and content for mobile operators and music companies.

Live Earth lineup announced: Tickets available soon

Back in February, we reported on the upcoming Live Earth concert series, sponsored by MSN, to combat global warming. Today, they have announced the lineup of artists who will be performing as well as the venues, spread throughout the world. The concerts are set to take place on July 7th. Here is where the concerts will be held:

US: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
UK: Wembley Stadium, London
Brazil: Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro
South Africa: The Cradle of Human Kind, Maropeng near Johannesburg
Japan: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo
China: (location TBD), Shanghai
Australia: Aussie Stadium , Moore Park, Sydney

So far, only the lineups for the shows at Giants Stadium and Wembley Stadium have been announced. Artists include Dave Matthews Band, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer, Kanye West, Ludacris, The Police, Roger Waters, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Eyed Peas, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, James Blunt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. Tickets will go on sale for the London show starting on April 13th and the US show on April 16th.
