The Mojave Experiment

How much “hear say” influences people in their opinion has become painfully, or is it embarrassingly, clear during the Mojave Experiment. Vista was shown as the “next OS”, codenamed “Mojave” to people who have never used Vista before. Afterwards they were asked to voice their opinion on it. The responses when they were told it was actually Windows Vista were priceless.

Live Maps traffic gadget for Windows Vista Sidebar available for download

After blogging about this nifty Windows Vista sidebar gadget a little while back, its now available for download on Windows Live Gallery. Even though the purpose of the gadget is pretty clear, Nathan Weinberg has a detailed post describing the in-and-outs. Dennis Cheung thinks that traffic is worse on Valentine's Day than other days, but with this Live Maps traffic gadget installed, you'll be ahead of the game.

Although this is an official gadget, it was created by Donavon West. Great work as usual and probably the first Windows Live gadget of many. If you have any feature suggestions for this gadget please leave them in the comments below.

MSN Weather gets Windows Vista 3D tabbing

As part of the changes going on at MSN, a new addtion to the weather portal is promoting Windows Vista's new 3D-tab experience.

Over at the weather maps page, this Windows Vista advertising graphic is on the right hand side of the screen. Clicking it loads a flash application that allows the user to cycle through the weather maps in the style of Windows Vista's Flip 3D.

Mouse-over controls on the various maps cause the windows to cycle around, clicking a map maximises it. Not particularly practical, but "cool" advertising nevertheless.

Windows Live OneCare 1.5 to launch with Windows Vista

Hot off the OneCare blog is news that Windows Live OneCare 1.5 will be available to the public on January 30th 2007, the same day as Windows Vista launches to the masses. New features currently include:

Windows Vista support

International versions (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, UK, US.)

Backup to network drive

Backup to other devices, including Apple iPod, Sony 1 GB Pro Duo memory stick, 1 GB Compact Flash Card. Other devices are supported.

And if you happen to be hibernating at the moment, Windows Vista went RTM today. Apparently that's considered news-worthy ;)
